Carc, Noh, Bilfur, Willie, and Wilbur can see that 'X' marks the best spot to drop a rope. They can see the light of Dougal's lantern down in the trench, below that spot. There is, indeed a conveniently-located stalagmite!

The flames are racing east to west. It looks like the whole 200' canyon is going to burn!

Robur kicks and thrashes, trying to free himself from the cocoon! Dougal and Kiplyn frantically hack away at the webbing with their blades. The wall of flame comes wooshing around the corner! "The light! Its hurting my eyes!" moans Robur keeping his eyes closed tightly. "Quick! Cut me out! I have more rope!"
Robur now more aware of what's happened feels weak, and his head is sore. But he desperately tries to tear a hole to get out of the cacoon.

Dame Simonetta is speechless with shock at Bilfur's action, the burning web is the precise reason for her earlier avowed intention of stopping Bilfur from throwing a torch, knowing that Dougal and Kiplyn are down there! And yet, in her relief as the black creature left, she let her vigilance lapse and now this has happened!

I suggested the room just based on the layout in my mind, I don't see how it would be faster to try and get to the ropes and climb out compared to dodging into the room - Die Hard Style - to escape the fire backlash. So DM's or Dice choice to whichever is more obvious.
