Re: The Seventh Adventure

Mike, you bring up a very good point: when I was designing this campaign, I gave a lot of thought pondering hobbet-specific questions (like whether or not to use the druid class for example) but I didn't give enough thought to "what will they do with all this money?" You are pulling in thousands of gp a day while getting free room and board, and it's starting to pile up. Where is it all going to go?

Earlier in the adventure, Beppo bumped up against the ugly fact that, your DM hasn't done much prep-work outside the dungeon itself. I originally conceived this as a 'megadungeon' type adventure, where the town was just a place to rest briefly before going back down the hole. Our current town of Hornpipe is a creative-commons map from Paratime Design, but it's always been my intention to swap it out with a more detailed map if/when this campaign turns into an all-out hobbets vs humans war on the surface. If that happens we can do a 'continuity reboot' and give the streets names, maybe move some buildings around, make the town feel more fleshed out.

When Hornpipe gets boring, I am open to taking the campaign anywhere you all want to go. Up to and including, you could buy a Longboat and go anywhere on Earth. You could (for example) travel to Egypt and explore the pyramids. I can find a pyramid-themed module and adapt it to our campaign world. I'm totally okay with that sort of thing. You guys have been hanging in there with me long enough that you've earned storytelling agency.

Beppo does have to enter the dungeon at least once, though, before you go sailing off in your new boat. Because Rule Seven!

A final comment, it's always been my intention that when Hobbet PCs reach their max level (or 6th lvl for thieves) they would start to accrue some of the benefits of a Name level human in regards to domain-level play. Sort of a pared-down, hobbet-sized version of building a stronghold and attracting followers for humans. From a certain perspective, hasn't Frederick carved quite out an impressive Stronghold, deep in very unfriendly territory? The party is knocking on the door of Frederick-level success, if you play your cards right. Whether that's here in Hornpipe, or sailing the seven seas in your "floating stronghold" longship, remains to be seen!

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Willie enthusiastically seconds Frederick's nomination of Beppo, and slaps the new recruit on the back.

"Welcome to Adventure Club! We're going to have great fun."

Before the next Adventure, Willie will purchase 3 more oil flasks, doubling his supply.

He is about to ask Frederick if the retired adventurer has ever heard of Spyder Club, but then stops himself. He's not sure why.

If anybody else asks, though, he'll listen with great curiosity to the answer.

Re: The Seventh Adventure

"Um...I believe the first rule was the same as the second, and that was not to talk about the Adventure Club," Beppo had answered Frederick.

Then he was handed a Silver Edged dagger in scabbard. Beppo unsheathed it and whistled loudly. "Well, bless me! I've not even seen the dungeon yet, and already spoils! I shall fight beside you, comrades, with this as my main weapon!"

Kiplyn would ask Frederick. "Do you know where I can get a set of those fancy little tools that can help me open locks and such."

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Beppo's ears perked up -- he knew exactly what kind of tools Kiplyn was asking about! Could this 'Adventure Club' be the Thieves Guild he had been searching for...?

Dougal touches Kiplyn's shoulder to get his attention and quietly says, "If Frederick doesn't have any, then I'm sure you can get them from..." He glances over at Beppo and pauses, "... from below."
Sorry, Scottenkainen... don't want to spoil anything!

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Entangle sounds like a good signature spell this go-round. I think that was helpful for N'oh last time.

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Bilfur signature spell is "faerie fire"

Bilfur accepts the new member to the group. The next day, unless we were going to the dungeon, he will try to identify the staff.

Re: The Seventh Adventure

When Bilfur answer the question correctly, Frederick gives him the rest of the johnnycakes.

It sounds like the meeting is a rousing success, and Bilfur is now a full member of Adventure Club! Frederick offers him a spot to spread out his bedroll by the fireplace.

Shall we forward to the next morning?

(Check the OOC thread for a discussion of thief's tools and lockpicks.)
