You also have to consider the characters, I cant imagine Dieter saying ok take me in. :p Now perhaps they will beat some of us senseless and drag us with 1 hp into Ket. yay.

Yep, the company does include some pretty tough fighters... and if Ulric gets his fireball off, well... surrendering might seem completely absurd ;)

Well, we could always hope for a morale check to go our way if Ulric's fireball goes off and if we can outlast the initial onslaught by taking out a few more.

I think this is the key. The worgs are tough but if we take a few of them out, the goblins should break and run.

Forcing a morale check should definitely be a priority!
morale would be checked when a deadly trap is sprung, when attacked by surprise, when losing a battle (at one-third losses), when a leader is slain, captured, or routed, and so on.
The good news is that goblins suffer a -1 morale adjustment in daylight :)

Yes, breaking the goblins morale is the primary purpose of the fireball. If Ulric can vaporize a third of their force along with their leader in the first round the rest may break and run.

If that doesn't do it, Ulric can still cast four "magic missiles" in one round (he may be able to take out four more goblins in a single round with this one), a sleep spell, and his tried and true "flamethrower" spell.

Of course he has to stay alive long enough to do all of that.

Here's hoping.

It also occurs to me that if we can destroy this force of mounted goblins we may have dealt a significant blow to the army. I do not know if Torben got a could count of troops but even at 200ish, 19 mounted is just shy of 10%. So here is hoping we can not only live but go for "no survivors".

Poor Rufus :( he had all the XP but no chance to level.

I'm really torn on the my next action. Tactically I should probably defend and get the +2AC, luck wise I should attack and hope to hit something. Drama wise I want cast a my last spell and try to bluff a stupid goblin. :( In random melee there may be no right choice.

I do think that Desmond should blow his whistle.... It helped break the morale of the wolves last time.

Yeah, that is unfortunate. The dice do crazy things.

On the other hand, you had some luck too. When I rolled a 6 for the monsters' initiative I thought it was going to go real bad. Then when Ulric got a 6 too, it got interesting :)

Josiane got two charging spear hits -- which would have killed her if not for her shield.

Retrospectively, I probably should have had more goblins going after Dorgan, him being a dwarf and all. I guess that's for next round...
