Dieter looks up from the corpse he is investigating and prepares for action. As his comrades come down into the courtyard, he'll move to interpose himself between them and the likely avenue of advance of our enemies.

Beringar will ascend the wall just before Dorgan.

From his position upon the wall, Highbough notes movement within the abbey. He can just see through the rising smoke and broken windows and the dimness within to make out a number of figures scurrying about, making some kind of readiness...

"The element of surprise is lost!" curses Highbough. "Everyone spread out, use the high ground to your advantage, and prepare for battle!"

He looks for some parapet or crenellation that would give cover against the mysterious abbey-dwellers.

Outside
Gustave takes a moment to fire up his pipe--fueled with the last of Wibert's longbottom pipeweed, and offers it to Dorgan as they observe their fellows' labouring for the top of the wall. Dorgan realises Gustave is right--at this rate it will be a while before everyone has made the climb.


Inside
Looking up from the to the grim, fortified enclosure all about him Dieter experiences a moment of eerie déjà vu. He stands alone in the enclosed yard--unless the deceased Sisters are counted company--while his comrades continue to scale the outer wall and gather of the catwalk some 20 yards behind him. Without the power of the ring, there is no way for them to immediately join him on the ground. Meanwhile, a lazy brown haze continues to rise from the smoldering tar-filled moat that surrounds the abbey proper...

The abbey wall has no proper battlement, and those upon the catwalk realise that they are quite exposed to anyone within. The best they can do for cover is to lie flat and shelter behind the roofs--but even these are mostly sloped downward into the courtyard. Slim cover for one, or perhaps two, could be had behind the bell tower.

Dieter's attention is drawn as he feels the echo of a distant thud in the earth beneath his feet. Then he feels the clatter of some giant mechanism in motion and, behind him (and beneath his fellows and to their right), a section of wall grinds ponderously open. Within he espies naught but a fell darkness...

What now?

Desmond attempts to scale down the wall to the floor below.

Once there, he will slip into the shadows...

Outside
Gustave takes a moment to fire up his pipe--fueled with the last of Wibert's longbottom pipeweed, and offers it to Dorgan as they observe their fellows' labouring for the top of the wall. Dorgan realises Gustave is right--at this rate it will be a while before everyone has made the climb.

Dorgan takes a deep drag from the pipe and returns it to The Gustave.

"I'm feeling pretty good about this trip now that we took care a' them wolves. I bet the cultists are gone and the monastery is ours fer the takin'. We're due fer our luck ta change, right friend Gustave?"

Wen would stand on the wall with bow drawn ready to shoot anything in the courtyard. "Movement in the abbey, if we are going in we better be ready for some resistance" he would call back towards Dorgan and Gustave and the others outside.

[Tonneau]

Dorgan takes a deep drag from the pipe and returns it to The Gustave.

"I'm feeling pretty good about this trip now that we took care a' them wolves. I bet the cultists are gone and the monastery is ours fer the takin'. We're due fer our luck ta change, right friend Gustave?"

"I sincerely hope you are right, my friend", says Gustave, blowing a last blue ring into the sky and passing the dying pipe to the dwarf, "and perhaps it is nigh time we found out?"

Once Dorgan is finished (ensuring not to rush such rare and exquisite weed), Gustave returns the pipe and now empty pouch to his pack with a regretful sigh. Once the last of the labouring casters has attained the wall, he follows up rope and/or tree.
