Maloof is in full agreement with Franklin. He first looks upwards to see if the trapdoor at the top is open. He will then search for traps around the base of the ladder. He'll then prod around in the pile of silver coins using one of his daggers to see if anything is concealed within.

The three halflings ready their weapons (sword for Franklin and slings for his henchmen) in case a spider drops down to eat Maloof or the coins are a mimic!
