Maloof moves to the nearby (right-hand-side) door and listens.

He does not hear anything

Maloof slowly and cautiously opens the door...

We don't know anything about this area, so we may as well start opening doors!

The room is 20' e/w and 50' n/s. There is 10 feet south of the door, and 30 feet north of the door. On the north wall, east section, is a door. The room is dominated by a giant mousetrap. Where the cheese would normally be is a large glass sphere, maybe 6 feet tall, almost filled with some writhing black viscuous liquid

"Is that supposed to be tempting?" Maloof asks rhetorically. "Whatever it is supposed to trap, how could it fit through one of these doors? In any case, I hope we don't run into it!"

Unless anyone wants to mess with the sphere, Maloof will cross the room (keeping very close to the right-hand wall and as far away from the sphere as possible) and listen at the door on the north wall. As he proceeds, he will keep close watch on the sphere and immediately stop if he sees it begin to move.

"I agree, let's give that thing a wide berth," Aldbane says. He will enter the room, following Maloof's path.

"Maybe it's a balrog trap," Franklin whispers (staying clear).

Is the whole party following Maloof to the north door, or are some staying in the corridor?

I think I have Maloof and Aldbane going to the door, and Franklin in the hallway. I need Rhod and Nailus

(To clarify, I imagine Franklin & Co are following Maloof, but hugging the right-hand wall, steering clear of the balrog trap. Perhaps they are moving in single-file formation.)
