((For something to do, Beppo would have watched the staff testing too.

((Can we assume Beppo now knows all the safe places for hobbets in town -- or is Frederick's place the only safe place in town?

((Yes, Beppo is ready to check out this dungeon today!))

Re: The Seventh Adventure

OOC: The staff-testing already happened, off-camera, via PM. @dtspurrier was clear with me: Bilfur didn't want his friends to get hurt, in case the staff misfired!

If someone has a specific, helpful suggestion for Bilfur (like "did you try X?") you should communicate that in-character. Put yourself in the shoes of, you are Sam, Pippin and Merry, and your friend Frodo wanted time alone with his new magic item.

If you're worried Bilfur didn't try hard enough, something about his face says, he gave it his best shot. His eyes have the 'thousand-yard stare.'

(In Call of Cthulhu terms, Bilfur chose to spare his friends from any potential SAN loss associated with ID'ing the item. Unfortunately for the general reader, that does mean, that certain details remain mysterious, not for public consumption.)

(Poor Beppo has no idea what I'm talking about. "SAN loss?!? There's no SAN loss in D&D." Oh sweet summer child...)

OOC: I don't know how to answer that question. Is Beppo truly 'safe' right here and now? He just watched a Hobbet lose a toe at the breakfast table!!

I'll leave it to the other players to answer that question in-character (or not). I know of at least one other place (other than the House of Pancakes) where Hobbets are welcome to rest their heads, but it's not my secret to share.

Frederick and Ursa sleep in the restaurant: Frederick in the back room and Ursa in the dining room by the fireplace (near Beppo).

Re: The Seventh Adventure

OOC: OK, so the offer below by Bilfur to accompany him for testing is being made on the morning of Jan 5th.

bilfur comments, " not sure what this staff is, it is magical. I am going outside after breakfast to test this, want to come with. I will test this staff away from the inn and humans"

"You should bring it back down to the dungeon, maybe you'll have more success there." Dame Simonetta suggests.

Re: The Seventh Adventure

OOC: Bilfur made that invitation yesterday, Jan 4th, and nobody took him up on it. It is now the 5th, too late to retroactively change what happened yesterday. I know it's no fun feeling left out, but this was handled privately between Bilfur and the DM. I'm just trying to spare the party from unnecessary SAN loss. ;)

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Beppo would be lazy and eat all day...but that night (the 5th? Or are we on the 6th now?) he sneaks out and decides to get some climbing practice. He first scales to the roof of Frederick's place and, if that isn't too hard, he tries two other places in town. Assuming he runs into no trouble, he returns to the fireplace where Ursa has been.

Re: The Seventh Adventure

Dougal finishes the last of his whole grain and gooseberry flapjacks and slides his chair back, depositing napkin on plate, "Well that was a fine first breakfast, Master Frederick. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm already tired of sittin'. Let's get back to it, shall we?"

Dougal preps his bag with new vittles and replaces the sacks they used to haul treasure in the last trip. He also replenishes any used vials of oil.

When he's ready, he waits by the dungeon entrance for the rest of the party.
