Pass-through Fire: Stationary missile troops may elect to give pass-through fire to any enemy units which are within their missile range at the half-move portion of the turn. This would include any enemy troops split-moving, passing by, or charging the missile troops.

Footmen - 45° left or right
Horsemen - 180° left, 45° right

Throwing Axes and Spears: These missile weapons are treated as any other missile weapons except: They may fire only once per turn, they may always fire at enemy troops charging them, and they may not fire indirectly.
I don't have chainmail handy, but the omitted section ("...") discusses indirect/overhead fire (over troops between the archers and their target). Basically crossbows cannot fire overhead, unless they are on a hill at a higher elevation than the guys they are shooting over, but normal bows can fire indirectly. Various types of cover (like roofs) provide defense against indirect fire, while other types (like walls and pavaises) provide cover against all missile fire except overhead fire.

Re: Out Of Character

The 1 Turn = 1 Week in town time is oddly inconvenient for spell casting. Wonder if this is a feature or a bug? Specifically I want to cast Witch Lock and Continuous Light (more then once) and it will take months to do this.

Re: Out Of Character

My impression is that "town time" is meant to represent the breaks between adventures during which time the PCs are largely resting, recouping, and generally living normal lives. On the other hand, "adventures" represent the short bursts of explosively energetic activity that are high risk/high reward compared to normal life. Nobody can maintain this pace indefinitely, and besides; no one really wants to. One of the motivations to adventure at all is so that you can afford to enjoy the downtime afterward.

All that being said, it's easy enough for the ref to hand-wave whatever seems reasonable during a town turn. In that regard, I think it's "reasonable" that a M-U could lazily employ a few low-level spells during a town turn, so long as doing so wouldn't disturb the extended bouts of eating, sleeping, shopping, idle research, gossiping, carousing, and so on...

(I think Redbaron posted a PDF a while back that showed Dave Arneson used to require players to drink, duel, gamble, womanize, carouse, and otherwise spend gold to gain XP. Any activity that interrupted these pass-times would effectively reduce the amount of XP a player could gian).

Re: Out Of Character

Which is why I said feature or bug :), I can see it being useful for the DM to also curb the Magical Lamp Salesman who spits out 2-3 Magical Lamps day in a major city making 1000gp+ a week. We all know, or have heard of, players who insisted on doing such things in AD&D.

Re: Out Of Character

WOTE,

After Leudigar finishes tending his wounds, he's possibly going to start looking around for a new shield to replace his sundered one.

Any thoughts about the ranger instead using his long sword in conjunction with his newly acquired long dagger similarly to the old rules we followed? +1 AC bonus vs. one opponent and/or +1 To Hit, even rolls being primary weapon and odd being secondary weapon and a natural 20 being both hit?

Re: Out Of Character

I really like what Sully has done...

http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 790#p25790

... to include his character stat line in his signature. That is something I'll do and would suggest everyone else does so, as well, as a way of allowing WOTE a quick glance at the important information he needs.

Re: Out Of Character

Adding stats to the Sig line is a good idea!

?? Why does your fighter have no armour?? Can we fix that somehow? What about Sister Arian's armour? Would that work? Also, was her shield sundered? Or is it usable still?

And we can't forget she had most of a week of rations on her, as well. And a spear and a helm, in case anyone has lost theirs or we have a fighter who needs the ability to fight from the second rank.

Re: Out Of Character

That's a great idea; really helpful to me guys :)

The next thing would be to figure out if phpBB will support:
* Dynamic signatures so that your Hinterlands PC stats only appear on your posts in the Hinterlands forum, and
* Dynamic signatures that are derived from information on your PC sheet so the two are always in sync

That would be awesomeness.
