Boggs is most comfortable in the protected core of the marching order whilst the party is traveling overland, as he's a little nearsighted in the daylight and lacks heavy armor. But he'd volunteer his tracking and/or stealth skills as the opportunity arose.
Boggs' greatest utility will be in the dungeon. I picture him up front during exploration cycles, checking for traps with his 10' pole, then falling back at the threat of combat. (Unless the battle is against vermin-types, in which case Boggs can hold his own.)
