I was sort of hoping to kill one more before we leave. The TAR BEAST will probably not fire into melee so we should be ok for the round. There are other better targets then the cluster near the Werewolf.

We may have not planned our attack out well enough but even had we did we expect the entire Abbey to empty out at us just because Dieter jumped the wall and killed some priests. :) Lets try to make our retreat count, like Ways hinted the Abbey defense is close to down. If we took the wolves, the priest and 1/3 of the werewolves out on our first attack. Coming back means we have

4 Werewolves
1 Tar Beast
Some number of unknown priests.

Thats not too bad.
If Desmond were still dressed as a fighter (chain), wielding something larger than a silvered dagger, and had rolled something higher than the 12 hp for this venture, he would stay. But if it is a 4hd creature, and it's only been hit once, then I don't think Des can go toe to toe with it and survive with nobody else helping.

On the upside, being engaged in melee offers some kind of "protection" (as in randomised targets) from disintegration, and a werewolf can deal only 1-6 hit points in a turn, so with >6 hit points you know you're good for one more turn at least ;)

Apologies for the short pause folks; it was my daughter's 2nd birthday this weekend so I've been neck deep in family commitments all weekend. Back to usual service starting tomorrow :)

Yeah, but he still has to make a 10' jump off the wall to disengage, as well, unless his thief skills can mitigate that short of a fall to no damage...

True enough.

The possibility of "mitigating fall damage" is partly up to you, as in: you'd need to give me a hint as to how Desmond is trying to achieve it. "Thief acrobat" type action is certainly not out of the question. If you were to post something like: Desmond jumps from the wall to grab onto a nearby tree branch, I'd consider it "difficult but plausible", and so I'd roll for it.

Sounds reasonable to me. The only trick is getting the whistle to hand; but if it's handy (say on a necklace) it should be easy.

Olroda, we've recently seen Wen attempt something similar (while you were away), and seen that any such wrestling/overbearing comes down to an opposed HD roll. In this case Beringar would roll 1d6+2 (his HD) and need to beat the werewolf's roll of 4d6. Unless he gets assistance from a comrade, it really is a long shot.

Josiane is possible near enough to assist Beringar in his effort (and she has 3 HD to add!), but she is planning to cast a spell instead...

Re: Out Of Character

These are the orders I currently think I have so far:
Wen will take a defense stance and try to aid Desmond, perhaps the Werewolf will drop his guard enough to allow the mighty hobbit a chance to slay him.

Hearing Dieter's words, Desmond tries to adjust his position around the other side of the werebeast, so his back is towards the outer wall.
Then he turns and jumps, hoping at least for a tree to land in and/or break his fall. If not, then the ground works just as well.

Dorgan continues to fight the werewolf in front of him, but starts yelling to Gustave as he does so. "Hey, Gov! Get your shiny tin butt back up here! New plan!"

Gustave, dismayed at the spray of (his own) gut contents on his formerly shining armour, attempts to stagger to his feet, so as to at least manage a defence.

"And stay down there!" Josiane snaps at her opponent as it topples off the walk way with a yelp and a crunch.
Keeping half-an-eye behind her in case the horrid thing decides to be disobedient, she advances on the fiend fighting Wen and Desmond/Mondes, channelling the power of The Righteous Evangelist into her sword, and ideally that of Wen as well...

Olaf, follows, Dieter's lead and goes back over the wall, grumbling all the way.

Seeing how easily the tar demon's gaze weapon can disintegrate solid rock, Highbough realizes the foe is beyond him. He will escape as quickly as possible beyond the wall to the orchard, using his blink ability if necessary. He tries to get into the treetops where he'll have a view of the wall, but the tar monster's line of sight is broken by foliage.

"This is pointless!" Dieter raises his head and his voice: "Fall back! Outside the wall! Move!"
He shoves Olaf toward his rope and grappling hook.
"Go, I'll try to distract it."
Dieter waves his shiny silver sword, trying to reflect some light onto the tar beast.
"Hey! Stinky! Shine your little light over here!"
OOC: Dieter is totally ready to duck/leap away at the slightest provocation. He just wants to give his comrades a chance to get away...

Beringar is locked in deadly combat with one of the beasts, and he is losing. Unlikely to be able to retreat, and within an inch of his life, he tries something desperate. While gripping his shield tightly, he attempts to push the monstrosity back off the wall and into the courtyard below.

Armando loops his rope around a rooftop protrusion of some sort, and begins to repel back over the wall. Before he goes he casts a glance at the body of the werewolf he finished off ...
Just awaiting something for Ulric and Torben.

I'll play out the next turn tonight at the latest...
