Re: Out Of Character

Fighters can of course use all types of armour.

Yes, you can buy regular mail from the Elves. You could possibly--subject to diplomacy--even put in a commission to have mithril mail fashioned for you by the Wold's master smiths (not located in Southwatch). But you would need sacks full of silver for such a commission.

Re: Out Of Character

Reminder to all spell casters:

All 1st level spells in your various spell books are known to you; you can memorise these as per usual.

All 2nd level spells that you did not previously know are still unknown to you. You must spend a town turn (aka a day) to solve/unlock/master each additional spell before you'll be able to memorise it.

This might be a way use some of your town time ;)

Re: Out Of Character

Not related to anything specific in the Hinterlands game, but recently I got curious on how your resolve the die rolls, WotE. Do you roll actual dice, or do you use a digital random number generator?

Also unrelated, but I like the new class 'write-ups' you did, especially the Marksman. Something for Beringar to consider, perhaps. Should he live that long.

I prefer to roll real dice when I have them handy, but I also use a smart phone dice app, and an online die roller as necessary. The latter allows me to copy'n'paste the results into posts (which is good when rolling lots of dice). Rolling the dice for-real is generally the most convenient and most fun thou.

Glad you like the additional DD classes :)
We once had a Percy the Marksman in this game (for whom the class was invented), but he faded into obscurity a long while back. If Beringar wanted to be Marksman rather than a fighter, now (before he gains any levels) would be the time to switch, because humans require a PR score of 16 in order to change class.

Re: Out Of Character

It's good to know that our fortune most often rests with a human hand, rather than a machine! :)

I take it that this game must have gone on for quite some time, then. I don't recall any sharp-shooting Percy, and I've read all there is to read on odd74! Is he from Gallaine's time, perhaps?

I think his concept is more of a 'close quarters' type, and seeing as he lack exceptional talent (PR below requisite), he's fine as he is. That won't stop him from trying, though. Shooting at an enemy is preferrable to Beringar. After all, it makes the nasty stuff happen at a distance instead, which is swell, if one enjoys life as much as he does!

Re: Out Of Character

Oh, now I see! I had forgotten about him completely. It gave me an excuse of reading that part again, and that didn't hurt. Percy, Josiane and Dorgan had a bout with a fierce hound, and a while after, it seems Percy went out for a stroll and never came back. Perhaps the Vampeer got to him? :)

waysoftheearth wrote:...and Beringar negotiate the purchase and fitting of mail armour from the Quartermanser (presuming they have the requisite 35sp each).
I think I made a stupid mistake. Having grown used to simplified exchange rates (1GP=10SP=100CP) from other editions, I assumed that I had enough to buy a coat of mail. But after checking the Price of Goods list, I found that 1GP=6SP=36SP, meaning that Beringar only has 14SP in coin (and he's reluctant to part with his other belongings). So there can be no mail for him, unless the Quartermaster suddenly forgets how to count (as I did, since I couldn't afford it even with the other rate)...

While it is my mistake, it kind of fits Beringar, who isn't used to handling larger sums of cash. Or "advanced" mathematics. ;)
