Re: (053) Moonshine

A quick sketch map wouldn't go amiss...

If people are forming on Dieter, he'll accept that. He can bound outward and be his own cavalry later if the opportunity presents itself.

He will make ready to receive the charge.

Re: (053) Moonshine

Having seen the map, I'll change my actions. Dorgan will stand in place and wait for the goblins to bring the fight to him. Shouldn't be long now...

Re: (053) Moonshine

As the flanking wolf-riders bound over the heath and turn, growling and slavering, toward the loose line arrayed between them Dieter and Dorgan form a "front" with Torben and Josiane hastily moving into echelon to either flank. It isn't much of a "wall" given the number of enemy, but it's almost something. Ulric moves between them and immediately beings his incantation; his face going slack and pallid as his eyes turn burning copper...

The flanking wargs don't even pause as they tear around a frightening bend and thunder toward the company from both sides and breakneck pace--their riders whooping as they level wicked spears and Chaaaaarrge!

At 20 yards the noise is horrific; Highough hastily takes position, setting the Ire Spear as near to Josiane as he can get (not near enough to make a proper line), while Gustave and Guntram are further back and facing the opposite direction. Wen and Armando have the shoulder of a blinded Halfling each, somewhere between. Seeing the imminent threat to the right flank, Torben and Dorgan reposition themselves to help Gustave and Guntram.

10 yards! You're knees are knocking. You can feel the ground shaking and see the filth between warg fangs and the bloodshot goblin eyes!

| Initiative is rolled... will Ulric get his spell off or be overrun?? 1d6 to rule them all.
For the wargs: 1d6=6! The PCs are scrambling to make their positions...
For Ulric: 1d6=6!!!!! The players roar--dice, miniatures, and pizza crusts go flying! |

Re: (053) Moonshine

IMPACT!!

There is a flash and tremendous collision beyond which you can't hear a thing.

Ulric flings his Comburent Phlogiston at the seven wargs-riders on the ridge as those charging into the flanks crash home [Ulric's fireball: 3d6+4=15 damage; ref rolls saving throws and hit points...].

Meanwhile the second group of riders hit the leading part of the PC column from the left:

Highbough is set against the incoming with the Ire Spear [d20=11 hits, 2d6=8 damage; roll warg's hp 3d6=12; goblin throws to remain mounted 1d6=2 but is thrown] the warg attacks Highbough [1d20=8] but misses.

A huge back wolf easily leaps the gap between Josiane and Highbough, the rider flinging his spear at Ulric [1d20=3] in mid-leap, but misses, though his mount [1d20=19, 1d6=3] tears flesh from Ulric's back as it passes and makes a skidding turn in the heath so that it is ready to tear him to shreds next turn...

Josiane somehow faces two of the fiends [goblin spears attack first 2d20=19,20; two hits! 4d6=4+2,3+6 damage; She has to sacrifice her shield to survive, and still takes 6 damage]. She strikes simultaneously with the wargs [Josiane 2d20=18,20, even attack rolls strike the riders, 2d6=5+5! She miraculously beheads both goblins as they thunder by! There's only space for one warg to attack so 1d20=5, a miss. The wolves barrel past, riderless now, Josiane having the better of it!

A goblin levels its spear at Dieter d20=15, miss], but he bats it aside easily, and counter attacks [2d20=2,17, hit warg for 1d6=4, roll warg's hp 3d6=12], slashing the Warg on its way by. [Warg attack 1d20=11, miss].

Another wolf, a white one, flashes by Highbough's left, and Armando fight himself swinging Desmond/Mondes around to face the threat "Now!" he gasps as the goblin spear lances at the pair [d20=8] rushing righy by them, [Desmond/mondes swings (blind) d20=9,2] but hits nothing. The warg [d20=12] bounds past without contacting either of them, Armando loosing his missile as it does so [d20=9] but misses in his haste.

The third group of riders simultaneously hit the trailing part of the PC column from the right:

Torben sets his spear and so attacks first [1d20=20! 2d6=6 guts the goblin rider and unhorses him!] the warg then smashing into him [1d20=19, d6=6] and goring him savagely with its powerful jaws.

Another goblin spear is pointed right at Dorgan [d20=14, miss (just)], but he knows this game and gets outta the way just in time... and counter-attacks as it rushes by [2d20=17, 8, hit warg for 1d6=2, roll warg's hp 3d6=17] getting something on the warg, which [1d20=12, miss] doesn't even scratch him.

Goblin spear versus Gustave [d20=9, miss]. Gustave ripostes with his sword [2d20=18, 12, hit goblin for 1d6=3, roll goblin's hp 1d6=2] and disembowels the goblin, killing it. The warg attacks [1d20=18 hit, 1d6=1] and nicks The Gustave!

Guntram, fumbling in his belt pouch for magic beans, is beset to a wicked pair. The goblins spear him [2d20=16, 4, one hit, 2d6=5] wounding the big fighter. He repostes [1d20=1] but misses wildly. The wargs close in [2d20=9, 2] but their own momentum carries the past to quickly.

The final warg rider skirts past Guntram's right to fall upon Wen and Rufus. "There, no there, THERE!" shrieks Wen, with Rufus blinding looking every which way. Goblin attack [1d20=13, dice to see who is hit; odds Rufus, evens Wen 1d6=5. Rufus is speared for 2d6=6 hp]. The pair of them attack (Rufus being blind) [1d20 Wen=2,Rufus=13], but miss in their panic. The warg [1d20=12 will hit; check who it is 1d6=3, it's poor Rufus again! 1d6=4 more damage] WOE! Rufus is slain!

Re: (053) Moonshine

| I hope the melee seems confusing; it is!

In summary; three wargs were injured, three goblins killed, and one goblin thrown from his mount in the melee. Ulric's fireball destroyed five wargs and riders, including Him That Spoke.

On the players side, Ulric, Josiane, Gustave and Guntram were wounded (well, Gustave's was mere nick) and Rufus was killed. Josiane would have been killed too if she didn't have a shield to throw!

Unless player actions specifically dictate otherwise, the next turn will be an all in melee with attacks/hits determined randomly.

Your intentions, good people? |

Re: (053) Moonshine

Wen does his best to defend the poor hobbit but he has failed. "Rufus, the wolf..NOOOO" Wen's face would harden and drain of color, death has come.

Wen tightens his grip and stands defensively hoping the goblin wave will recede.

Dorgan will bang his axe against his shield and call for the goblins to come to their Doom.

Re: (053) Moonshine

Ulric's elation as the fireball detonates on the mass of goblins and wargs is very short lived as the flanking forces hit their rough lines. The pain of the bite to his back staggers him for a moment. He turns to see the goblin and his warg wheel around and prepare to attack again. Ulric grins as spits the words of the The Hyperbole Fulmination, launching four firebolts from the palms of his hands, arching out to strike the goblin that attacked him and three other riders.

Re: (053) Moonshine

Knowing that he is practically useless with his sword, and that he shouldn't have any trouble breathing, with two heads and all, Desmond chances pulling out his Silver Whistle and blows hard through it. His hope is it will cause confusion and disrupt the goblins' control of their mounts.
