Re: (053) Moonshine

Torben has always been naturally strong and quick, and now cut loose from the company's general train he springs forth with vigor and energy. Setting himself a steady lope he is soon well ahead of the column. Every now and then he pauses on a grassy crest, or doubles back, in order to stay in visual contact with his distant fellows. But for the main part he is well ahead of them, searching out any sign of trouble...

d6

By mid-morning he can see Ket in the distance. He reckons he could cover the distance by early afternoon if he pushed himself, but would leave his fellows long behind. Moreover, even at this distance (6 or so miles), he sees right away the lands surrounding Ket are all blackened with some quarters still smoldering. It's hard to see anything more from here...

What will Torben do?

Re: (053) Moonshine

Ulric had said little in their journey from the Abbey. He moved mechanically, ready for trouble, but holding little interest in the world around him. How many times how had they trudged, starving though the wilderness. What madness had brought him to the cursed land?

The smoke in the direction of Ket filled him with dread. The others spoke of their manse as a safe haven. But what if nothing within the walls of Ket stood?

"Sneaking into Ket once more," Ulric muttered. "I'd rather burn my way in. We should be prepared to do so."

OOC: The Firestarter is back (apologies for the long absence). He has memorized The Word of Anthracite Sufferance, The Baleful Somnolence of Morpheus, Ulric's Lyre of Inveiglement, Ulric's Comburent Phlogiston, and The Hyperbole Fulmination.

Welcome back Danhem :)

I see Ulric is in a rather "destructive" frame of mind ! |

The party agreed to reconnoiter the rural Abbey and recover the Holy goodies in exchange for restoring Olaf's two lost levels.

The Mother Superior agreed to restore Olaf from 1st to 2nd level in advance in exchange for the party leaving a security of 1,000 silver pieces, The Resplendent Scepter, The Innocent Opus, and Ulric's magic Potion. All this will be returned, and Olaf restored from 2nd to 3rd level upon return from the Abbey mission with aforementioned intelligence and/or goodies. Any other treasure gained was for the party to keep. |
| Yeah, but what defines "holy goodies"? The orb? The staff with the enigma (did we check to see if that was magical?)? The silver bowl or the other staff in the statue that looked fake? The wooden staff or bowls in the secret room? Seems like most of what we found could go under the category of "holy goody", which leaves us with little more than naught for our troubles, aside from two blind hobbits... |

Torben

Torben will move forward at a reasonable pace, not wanting to lose the company and already weary of the destruction before him. For a short while before joining the company, he helped fund his gambling endeavors with odd jobs and manual labor along the outskirts of Ket. So long as he's not too divergent, Torben would investigate any familiar farmsteads in the vicinity for news or clues.

OOC: don't we know a friendly farmer on the outskirts of town? that might be a good place to check for clues...

Re: (053) Moonshine

Torben has worked for a few of local farmers and lumberers from herebaouts, so he sets off to locate anyone he might know.

But before too long this hope is dashed. Every farmstead, every barn, and every outbuilding has been razed to the ground. The entire farm district around Ket seems to have been reduced to char and ashes... there is nothing left. Who could have done such a thing? Toben wonders grimly... and why?

Torben

Torben halts momentarily as the totality of the devastation dawns on him. He resolves to continue on towards Ket -- a little more tense and alert with each passing step.

Dieter keeps a close eye on Torben's progress, staying ready to leap forward and assist should he come upon any trouble.
