Desmond/Mondes enters first, followed by Dorgan, while the others hold the passage behind them.

The place is unlit, and hungrily swallows the tiny light offered by Wen's levitating candles. Everything is black and char, and the smell of ash is strong.

Desmond/Mondes doesn't see any place for torches, but there are large, blackened iron candelabras hanging from the ceiling in several places. The nearest is above the space immediately inside the door, and is a 3ft diameter wheel that could accommodate a dozen candles, but these have been melted away in the burning. A similar candelabra is visible further into the space, slightly around the corner some 30ft away.

The shelves are generally charred and heaped with ash. It doesn't look as if anything much has been disturbed since the room was fired... apparently some time ago.

Armando signals his fellows for quiet, then advances to the end of right hand wall. Gustave and Torban follow, albeit less delicately, at a distance, while Ulric, Guntram and Rufus have the van. And the light.


Armando senses by echoes and the feel of the air that there is a large, unlit chamber to the right. Directly ahead, he sees that the passage way continues ahead -- indeed, the right hand wall continues after the 20ft opening into the chamber to the right.

Listening carefully (1d6) Armando hears nothing at first... but before he surrenders the effort he is rewarded; there comes again that very same, disturbing snuffing sound that he heard before. It seems to be coming from within the unlit chamber, perhaps from atop an -- as yet -- invisible raised platform or dais?

Wen would reach into a his pouch and pull out a couple of candles. Having never cast the spell before he is interested to see if he can light a real candle from the magical candles flames. If this fails he shrugs and works a spark from his tinderbox. Once lit he would try to place them in the candelabra

Dorgan fishes out the previous Marrowstone while Wen focuses all four of his animated candle flames upon the very wick of a mundane candle, where they whiz about in a tight know for a slow count of three before the candle is lit.

When the fey little lights zip away, there are but three.
