Re: Out Of Character

Ah, you're right. Just diseases and curses. More's the pity.
waysoftheearth wrote: ...Further invocations of The Effable Apperception by our magical types resolve the hidden magical runes that will command these artifacts to function... and so it is ultimately learned that:

The Rosary Beads will, when the inscribed prayer is invoked, protect the wearer from evil,

The pearly sphere is a Queerious Speculem, a crystal ball which is usable by both clerical- and magic-using-types,

The gnarled staff is one of three Theraic Staves; it has the power to lift diseases and curses,

The plain wooden bowl is a fabled Lentive Demitasse--a Cup of Healing--any Holy Water splashed from it upon wounds will heal 2-7 hit points.

The Tome is a spell book containing the full set of 3rd level clerical-spells.

...The collection of research papers taken from the Infirmary can be used to research a further clerical spell (of a healing nature).
Looks like we just need some holy water to try out the bowl. Can Josiane make holy water? I assume, as a saint, her urine would suffice? Maybe not. Peeing in the Lentive Demitasse might not be the best idea Desmond's ever had.

I recall someone having a vial of holy water at some point, but I don't like digging through other peoples' inventory and I can't remember who it was. Everyone should check their pockets.

More importantly, though, will be figuring out how easily Josiane can MAKE holy water. Maybe just a Bless spell upon a vial of water is sufficient? I bet that danged fountain we found in the Reliquary had holy water pouring out of it before it was defaced...

Once we get a chance to settle down, don't forget about those research papers! Might be good to have another healing-type spell handy.

Re: Out Of Character

I played out with Alex's gridmapper last night. It's a really cool little gadget and almost exactly what I need. I say "almost" because it has one fatal flaw: it's a map editor, but not a map viewer, so there's no way I can "post" a view of my creations for players here.

I will write to Alex and see whether he's willing to add a "view only" feature. I have a couple of other feature requests to toss in too. We'll see what happens...

Meanwhile, I think it's back to ASCII text maps for now.

Re: Out Of Character

Can a cleric create Holy Water? That would be a conversation between the ref and a cleric ;)

Re: Out Of Character

You sure Google Docs isn't an alternative? Has to be faster than ASCII...

Re: Out Of Character

So what kinds of output options does Alex's software offer? It has to generate SOMETHING, right?

Can you view your maps in a non-edit mode? If so, cropped screen shots would suffice, I'm sure.

Re: holy water... all it can do is gently nudge people in the right direction. :)

It is an alternative, but I don't think it saves me any time. Maybe it could if I invest some effort into getting it set up "just so"... I'll mess with it some more.

No. It only has the editor view as far as I can tell.
Creating a map, then taking a screen shot, uploading it to a fileshare, and linking to it from a post here is all the effort I'm trying to avoid ;)

Re: Out Of Character

There has got to be some ASCII painting software... murmur - chant - google

http://asciiflow.com

https://code.google.com/p/ascii-paint/

http://www.asciipaint.com

See if any of those make live easier... I like ASCII maps they cut and paste right into the forum.

Re: Out Of Character

Some great ASCII tools there, thanks guys.

It's a shame none of them support layers (as in, photoshop-style layers within an image), cos it would be great to be able to draw a map in one layer, then position icons for players and monters in another layer above that, then possible even position a light radius mask in another layer above both of these.

Don't want much, do I
