Armando continues down the hallway towards the door, if possible, keeping close to the left hand wall. If and when he reaches the door, he listens at it for sounds of activity within.

The North East Way
(Torban, Dieter, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan, Josiane, Gustave, Wen, and Rufus)

Wen's candles gather around the cramped intersection as Desmond/Mondes reaches it first. Desmond removes his helm to listen at the door, while Mondes looks right to peer down a narrow, stone stair that curves leftward as it descends...

With all the armour and boots tramping in the narrow space, it's impossible for Desmond to hear anything beyond the stout door.

The West Passage
(Armando)

As Ulric's lantern springs to life, Armando's way becomes subtly better lit -- his own shadow being cast over the now apparent door. Sliding along the wall like a shadow, Armando reaches to door and stretches his neck out in order to listen at it...

All is quiet beyond... or is it? Could there be the faintest sound of... sniffing?

Giving the noise train an evil eye, Desmond/Mondes moves towards the stairway and tries to listen for any sounds coming from below.

He also peers down to see if he notes any light sources.

Which way does the door open, WOTE? And what is the mechanism for opening it?

The stair is to Desmond/Mondes' right when facing the door. It is cool, dark, and quiet down there.

The door immediately before him appears to open into the space beyond, and to be operated by an inconveniently positioned (for a Halfling) door knob on the right hand side of the door.

OOC: Stairs or door? Thoughts or ideas from the rest of the party?
