Ulric has the scepter in hand, so there is no need for any delay whatever.

Guntrum thinks back; can he recall if those torchs were lit before the one he is carrying? If he can maneuver without jostling Josiane, he'll put himself at Josiane's back, facing back down the corridor.

He'll go 15 feet down the corridor and listen for a moment, taking note of any temperature drops, and then retreat to the group.

Alas, no. Perhaps if you'd dragged one of the sarcophagi in from the ante-chamber... but that would have been a mighty effort.

It can hardly have been long enough for the torches to have burned out... can it?

Guntram advances some dozen or so paces back toward the ante-chamber... if it were to get any colder in here, he observes, there would have to be ice upon the floor. The entry into the ante-chamber is another 30ft or so along the passage. Guntram can see the flickering yellow torch-light dancing upon the walls with deep indigo shadows... but all else seems still down there... wait a moment... is that..? The shadows grow bolder as the light diminishes to ocher. That is another torch gone out for certain!

(Wibert and Pelenwin)

Wibert enters the room and goes immediately to the nearest pot of coins and digs up a handful to let them run through his fingers. They clink and clatter pleasingly as they spill back into the pot.

"Gold!" he breathes.

Meanwhile Pelenwin examines a few of the sarcophagi. The stonework is old and worn, and grimy with old dust and lichen.

The knights graven into the stone wear an unfashionable style of plate armour, not made now for many decades. The few whose lids are dislodged, he can check without disturbing anything -- but these seem all to be empty. There are others whose lids are still sealed, however.
"Let us pray if these knights do also come to life they will fight for us, against the undead behind us. Maybe I should learn to pray old friend if it helps", smiles Wibert.
Then he goes and searches around the sealed sarcophagi, while keeping an eye and ear out for trouble.

"Pelenwin maybe you should rest a minute to recover while things are quite", suggests Wibert.

Josiane's eyes widen in alarm at Guntrum's news. "In the Saint's name why do they not burn them?" she thinks to herself desperately.

She seeks to maintain her prayer, but the hairs on the back of her neck are beginning to rise as she fears approaching horror at her back. She trusts to Guntrum to maintain his watch. At any further word of alarm from him she will attempt to pivot round and turn the power of the Soliloquy on whatever may be coming at them from behind. Should this fail, she snatches up her flask of oil and reaches for her sword. The time for prayer may soon be over...
