If it doesn't, he will visually scan the cobwebs before proceeding. Spiders can be nasty.

The cobwebs are of a normal, long abandoned sort; there are no spiders to be seen.

None formally; but a torch could easily be wedged in the crook of a stone knight's arm, or between sword and leg, and so on.

Wibert will light an other torch and wedge it in a crook. He does not like this darkness either.

"As you would have it, my friend," says Josiane; "Friend Guntrum, will you be so good as to take over my vigil of yonder passage?"

And, assuming Guntrum is willing, she will fall back, set her sword and shield to one side (although within easy grabbing distance should need require) and dig out a couple of torches and her flint-and-tinder. She fires the torches and throws one down each of the unexplored passageways.

Her task achieved, she scurries back with all speed to collect her sword and shield once more.
