"Bright morning, to you Sir," begins the elderly Goblin, with a slight bow, "I am Bennug the butler, and this," he indicates a stern little Goblin madam with a tight bob of grey hair and a grimace upon her face, "is Ms. Piganne, senior House Mistress. The others here are her household staff." The others bob their little green heads.

"We understand that Master Offal and Master Dier will soon be taking up residence, and will require a house staff. We are at their service." intones Bennug graciously, and gives a slight smile along with another bow.

"If you would be so kind as to introduce me to Masters Offal and Dier, I would be much obliged. And you are, Sir?"

Dorgan scratches at his beard for a moment.

"Hmm, makes some sense ta have both hands free. Instead a' borrowing the lantern, can I borrow your services for a moment? Come with me."

Without waiting for a response, the dwarf heads back in the direction of the ballroom.

They see the dwarf step into the massive fireplace space (which is easily as big as the one in the dining hall on the other side of the manse) and begin to push on some of the sooty bricks on the right hand wall of the fire grate...

"C'mon now, where are ya, blasted brick? I just found ya not two minutes ago... Aha!"

One of the bricks right at about hand height can be pressed in, and doing so enables a miniature "door" of bricks, about 3ft high and 2ft wide to swing inward.

Beyond is an equally narrow secret passage that contains a steep stair that descends into darkness...

Dorgan pauses, as if deep in thought for a moment, and then looks back at the pair.

"That passage is barely wide 'nough for any of us, even turned sideways. How 'bout you give me the lantern and follow behind me right close? With any luck, the space below will be bigger and we can have a little room to explore."

If Highbough is agreeable, Dorgan will enter the passage with the lantern held in his right hand, and his left hand behind him holding his axe. He will then proceed slowly down the stairs.

Ulric looks over the goblins carefully.

"I am Master Ulric," he says. "I have also taken up residence here and you would be working for me as well. Have you any letters of reference? Did you work at this house before we moved in or elsewhere?"

He stubs the remains of his cigar out on the balcony and drifts inside, padding down the stairs toward the front door. En route, he spies Dorgan climbing into the fireplace, while Highbough and Desmond watch on. Somewhat intrigued, he pauses in two minds, unsure of which development to pursue further.

"Clearly, a man can't have a quiet cigar to himself without all kind of shenanigans cropping up...", he mutters to himself.
