Dorgan still hopes to obtain another shield before returning to the Plough.

Very good.

Dorgan ambles through the ever busier streets of Ket with the four flasks of Holy water strapped over his shoulders, following his nose as much as anything else. And by the familiar scent of coal and brimstone, and the ringing of hammer upon anvil, he at last comes upon the artisans of Bow Street.

Here there are lumberers and carpenters, miners and masons, tanners and leather workers, coopers, cobblers, cartwrights and shipwrights and smiths all plying their trades. There is the smell of sweat and industry all about. Tis a happy place for Dorgan to be, even though the artisans are Men not Dwarfs.

But soon he locates a good smithy with a number of shields, horseshoes and even a helm for sale....

(The costs of various things are listed http://odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?ac ... ge=1#46451here. Let me know what Dorgan wishes to buy.)

Alas, Dorgan's purse is too light for a helm, though he's in sore need of one. He'll settle for a small shield (9 sp).

He'll also inquire as to the location of a good tobacconist, so he might see about selling the leaf he has in his possession (with perhaps a bit saved for his new friend Gustave).

If he was aware that Wolfrick was an alchemist, upon his return to the Plough, he will seek the Man out and ask him to investigate the contents of the glass vial hanging from his dagger's sheath. If not, he'll inquire on Bow Street as to the location of such a personage in town.

"I'm quite fine, thank you for asking," squeaks Brigitta, blushing at Gustave's attention.

"I do hope your friend's mother is fully recovered from her case of mal-air?" she inquires politely, "But how can I assist you this fine morning?"

"Do you think you could find a buyer? I'll wager it should fetch a pretty price indeed", he finishes with his best grin.

The Temple of Thuul

Meanwhile, Ulric has acquired a new set of clothing and reached the Temple of Thuul carrying spear, dagger and flask.

By the time he arrives it is mid-morning, but despite the town itself being a bustling hub of commerce with Men and Snorks alike hurrying about their business, he finds surprisingly few folk at the Temple. Indeed, it is stately in its serenity, and his foot falls on the cold marble floor seems over loud in his own ears.

Ever a resourceful fellow, Ulric makes a slow sweep of the chapel, searching out all the obvious nooks and naives for any sign of occupation. Alas, the place seems deserted!

He makes his way out the side door to find a beautiful little garden encircled entirely by the mighty stone work of the church and steeple. In the centre of the garden is a water fountain, and by it he spies Pelenwin kneeling in contemplation. How strange it is to see the Templar sans armour, pack and weapons -- for he is adorned only in a plain white robe.

He does not seem to notice Ulric as he approaches...

Gustave, Olaf; Crib Street

"Your... cousin?" asks Brigitta, giving Olaf a cursory glance, and perhaps not seeing the family resemblance...

But by then Gustave has the necklace out, and she is overwhelmed by its sparkling glamour.

"Ohh!" she gasps, and immediately has the thing under her lights and magnifying lens, examining it in excruciating detail.

"Yes, yes, very good, yes," she mutters to herself as she scrutinises each stone, each link and each engraved lapel. "Won from brigands you say," she breaths, not looking up, "They must have been very wealthy brigands indeed, I should hazard."

She ceases her examination and looks up adoringly at Gustave, who grins broadly, tweening his newly shaped moustache. Olaf sighs.

"You shall have to tell me this tale," she smiles, "For what you have here, I believe, is the Baroness Dubior's engagement gift from her Uncle Riechktor, the Marquis of Sayre," She gazes knowingly at Gustave for a moment before continuing. "I know all this because of these engravings here," she points out the microscopic details to Gustave who barely looks at them.

"I should think the Lady will pay handsomely for its return. Alas she lives in distant Maine, and a letter might take a week or more to be carried there and back. I could, if you prefer, settle the matter immediately, with say... 300 gold crowns?"

Gustave blinks, and Olaf almost coughs.

300 gold pieces?! That's worth 1,800 silver!

Olaf stays silent, and keeps an eye peeled in every direction.

Olaf grunts out a "Hello." as color rises up his neck to his cheeks. The young man shuffles his feet a bit, then with as friendly a nod and smile as he can muster he turns back to look at the street, the shop and everything except the pretty young woman that Gustave is talking to.
