The Temple of Thuul

While all this goes on, Dorgan accompanies Ser Pelenwin (who spent a good part of breakfast conversing eagerly with Josiane about scriptures and virtues and other knightly stuff Dorgan couldn't make much sense of) back to the Temple of Thuul.

By the time they arrive the bell is tolling repeatedly and quite a flock of worshippers are arriving to observe the morning service.

Not a Snork among them, notes Dorgan...

Pelewin joins the regular folk in their prayers, while Dorgan hangs back to watch... it's a strange business with a lot of kneeling, and murmuring, and making wishy washy signs in the air. And then the good folk seem to empty their pockets of coin on the temple floor and tramp out leaving the coin behind! Very strange indeed.

Finally Dorgan spots Brother Denim, and approaches him, grunting something to the effect of "Nice service,"before collecting his four flasks of Holy Water and heading back to the Plough and Furrow sans Pelenwin, who bows his good byes and elects to stay on at the Temple for some additional meditation.

Flea Street

All clean, shaved, and primped, Olaf and Gustave are keenly aware of the sorry state of their vestments as they approach the tailors stores along Flea Street.

After much fussing from Gustave, two tidy new outfits (one more practical and one more ostentatious), and a very wide cloak are purchased. Gustave is particularly pleased with his shiny new knee height boots with bold brass buckles. "Dashing," he assures Olaf.

Crib Street

Once he is looking his best, Gustave strides victoriously along Crib Street (the wealthy end of town) passing the well to do merchants, and folk on the street in all their finery.

At last he returns to Brigitta's Lavaliere, his favoured jeweller, and throws open the door to stride inside (carrying the necklace in his vest pocket). Within, the Lavaliere is sparklingly clean just as Gustave remembered it.

"Good morning Sir," says Brigitta in a high pitched voice from behind her counter where she is examining an array of small stones on the bench. She is as slight and sumptuous as ever, her long black hair tied in great butterflies today.

"Oh, mister Gustave!" she gasps when she recognises her latest customer...

Desmond is visibly moved by Gustave's words.

Just when a tear is about to form in the corner of his eye, Mondes spouts off with one of his grinding grumblings and he rolls his eyes, instead. Then knocks Mondes in the noggin with his head immediately after.

"Shut it with the complaining already! And be grateful my friends here don't rid me of my problem with a swift swing of an axe!"

In truth, Desmond's grown somewhat used to Mondes (he wouldn't say "fond of" just quite yet) and his complaining. In fact, Desmond seems to be in higher spirits these days - maybe because Mondes does enough complaining for the two of them.

He will try to use the bath after Josiane while he's awaiting the arrival of his cloak.

"Your - ah - pardon, good sir... and - good sir," Josiane stammers, her grey eyes dancing from one head to the other; "Pray forgive my outburst. I meant no offence. I was merely... momentarily perplexed."

She does her best to raise a friendly, if weak, smile for him. And him.

Once she has washed, she will, by way of making amends, see to it the coast is clear for the hobbit(s) to take his ablutions in privacy. Once this is done, she makes her morning devotions, then settles down to await the return of the rest of the company.

She's also keeping a careful eye on the movements of the remaining two of her original companions. She knows Dorgan's gone to collect the Holy water. What about Percy?

"Ah, Brigitta my dear!" exclaims Gustave, sweeping into the establishment with a flutter of his newly purchsed cloak of deep red velvet. Indeed, after his recent visit to Flea street, he is once again resplendant, in shining knee-length boots, a dark green vest and waistcoat over burgundy trousers, complemented by a silver buckled belt in dark leather, and a rather dashing brimmed hat sporting a long exotic-looking feather.

"My eyes are poorly with want for such a vision" he adds, kissing her hand.

"I do hope you are well? Looking thus, it is not possible it could be otherwise..."

Coin will be more divisible amongst the group, true, but hardly more portable.

In fact, sacks of coins will be scores of times more bulky than the jewellery is (depending upon how much coin it actually fetches).
OOC: That's why I think we need to either convert it to useful items, portable ones...or put the coin in a bank (or other strongly guarded location for when we need to spend it. We certainly need to see a money changer to convert all the copper to gold or silver!

Olaf and Gustave make their way to Gernmaine's Baths, following directions from Albert's stable boy, and soon find the place. It is not quite so illustrious as Gustave was hoping, with the bathes themselves being primarily a series of naives cut from solid bedrock and filled with invigoratingly cold river water. However, there are several great brass tubs of soapy water with cook fires set beneath them so that the water is at least warm.

However, their are barbers and back scrubbers on hand, and for a mere 3cp a piece the pair are scrubbed so clean, and shaved so close that they scarcely know themselves!
After it is done Olaf grins and says, "I feel much cleaner now!"

Once he is finished making himself presentable, Ulric collects the spear, dagger, and potion and travels to the Temple of Thuul in search of Pelenwin who he hopes can help him get in touch with the correct individual to get the items identified.

OOC: Ulric will purchase basic clothes: trousers, belt with buckle, shirt, socks and smalls, wrist length gloves, and hat, as well as a waxed cloak, hat and ankle-high boots. He also buys a change of clothes: trousers, shirt, socks, and smalls. Total cost: 21 sp, 12 cp
