The dwarf's voice trails off at the end as he sticks his dagger in his belt. He begins to rub his neck where the undead thing almost choked the life from him.

Under his breath, he mumbles, "We oughta burn this place down to the cinders when we leave..."

I know that, and you know that, but does Dorgan know that?

I meant to say that between the three of them, Josiance, Percy and Mads probably would have communicated this information to Dorgan by now.

"The idea has already been mooted," Josiane whispers back to him, "but I would first make sure that no innocents are being held here. I doubt all the participants in Grumolg's 'games' are willing."

She looks around; "And fire spreads. The last thing we must do is bring death and destruction to the poor people of this quarter whose only crime is to be forced by poverty to live near this ghastly place. Let us uncover everything we can before we decide how to act."

She smiles at Dorgan; "Now come, my friend - put those fine Dwarvish senses of yours to work and see if you can locate any trap or hidden device within this room. I would know what causes that foul stench."

The company tramp out of the lounge/office space and back onto the mezzanine level overlooking the main floor area of the warehouse, wherein the great tent is pitched.

Dorgan takes the lead, followed by Josiane, then Percy, then finally Mads with the sputtering torch.

On the mezzanine it is clear that the timber passage circumnavigates the two room (office and lounge) entirely, and also provides access to the narrow wooden stair which descends to the gloomy floor space below.

Dorgan leads on, and soon has attained solid ground. Before him the great pavilion occupies much of the interior space. Behind him is a dark passage leading back further into a warren of rooms and passages beneath the mezzanine.

What now?

The pavilion has canvas sides which prevent anyone seeing what is within.
