It isn't easy to see in the dim light, but after a little reconnaissance, Dieter recons the stuff is on the ceiling too...

Hmm, well the passage is only 6ft wide. It would be quite troublesome for Pelenwin to pass by the entire company to lead them back the way they have just come... it would be far easier for everyone to simply turn about face (reversing the marching order), and head off in that fashion.
