Dieter charges past Ulric and into the next isle, then rushes down there as fast as he can, his coat of mail shinking and heavy pack clattering with every pounding step.

Well before he makes it to the other side of the room his own racket has drowned out any further sound that might have been made by the escapee... and even with Ulric following behind as hastily as he can, the illumination is far too poor to penetrate all of the shelves, and racks, and strangely cut stands of timber. By the time Ulric reaches the center of the store-room, the far sides are scarcely illuminated at all, and whoever it was is apparently long gone.

Dieter suspect that his quarry must have left by a second wooden stair which he can now see on the opposite side of the room, or else somehow used the strange contraption which he has just passed. At a glance it appears to be some kind of mechanised gantry..?

The isles between the clutter of crates are cramped, only 2ft or 3ft wide, and the ceiling is low. Overall you would call this room "claustrophobic".

Very good.

Pelenwin joins the pursuit while Mads has the van.

Dieter and Pelenwin both now pound up and down the isles in order to reach the opposite stair as hastily as they are able.

The stairs lead up a short way into a strange, quiet "room" if it can be called that. While down below the ceiling was low, here is it greatly high. As they reach the top of the stair the fighting-Men have to turn right about in order to face into the room. Oddly, the walls are all hung with long dark curtains which muffle sound. The wall to the left isn't really a solid wall at all, but rather three section of curtain hung in echelon with diagonally angled opening leading out into another chamber, from which a yellow light illuminates this space dimly.

The wall along their right is cluttered with tall wooden structures, and pulleys and ropes which travel up to other pulleys on the ceiling, 20ft or more overhead. Whatever this place is, there is no sign of their quarry.

Moreover, there is a sharply disagreeable tang in the air. An unrecognisable but certainly foul scent...

Ulric looks around the new chamber.

"Many places to hide; and that smell. We should investigate that strange light. Perhaps whoever was below fled in there. I'll be ready to call forth fire if anything less than human is there."

OOC: I'm assuming Ulric made it up into the chamber. He will move forward behind the fighting men.

Ulric sniffs the air once more and looks around at the old curtains, tapestries, wood, and rope.

"Perhaps you are right Mads. Maybe I'll hold off on casting any fire."

Ulric examines the flame of his lantern to see if it has changed at all since entering the room.

"I think we might want to leave here," Dieter says quietly. He motions for the others to back out of the room.

Once they've left he'll retreat as well, but will give one last listen for their quarry.

(While he's waiting, does he have any idea what this stuff could possibly be used for? Is it like a backstage/curtains area in the theatre?)
