Agree we can't trust the mage if he does manage to charm a balrog.
Maybe we can offer Kalen his freedom for half his gold?

Naillus has used his Detect Magic, so would need to sleep/rest enough to recover it. The gold would be useful in XP and or actual money to buy things, but agree that it could turn a useful neutral to an enemy. Would rather keep him as neutral to friendly, so is willing to bypass on the gold.

Franklin is merciful and trusting by nature. He votes yes to offering the wizard his freedom and makes no claim to the gold.
As Maloof said, if Kalen joins us he must subsume his interests to ours. Franklin states for the record: he doesn't feel ready yet to face the balrog, and if that day ever comes, he hopes to destroy or banish the demon (not charm it).

After discussion, Aldbane is in agreement with the others - Kalen can keep his gold if he agrees to remain on good terms with us, or even join us.
