"A late breakfast spread for..." Albert counts you off carefully on his chubby fingers, "nine then!" he concludes with a wide smile, not noticing that Flewellen and Gustave dined only an hour earlier. "Oi'll get right to it."

"As fer privacy, well, the common room is the only space oi have to accommodate nine -- upstairs the bedrooms are only fer two an four a piece. But its usually pretty quiet until around noon anyways." he explains.

He thinks on the problem a bit longer. "If you were feelin' very private, like, I suppose I might close the common room orf... but it's hardly good fer business I'm sure you can see?"

"A top morning to ye, sir," replies the barber, looking at Mads over with a quick tilt of his head and a raised eyebrow, before continuing to clip efficiently at his client's rapidly vanishing shag of knotted hair. "What can I do for ye, sir?" he asks. "A clip and shave, perhaps?"

Mads also notes another fellow -- a lean looking merchant with a long, grey flecked beard reading from a scroll -- loitering nearby apparently awaiting his turn to be served.

Albert ponders this for a moment or two, and then...
"Moi good sirs!" he gushes, "We'll get them doors closed fer you until just afore noon! An yer breakfasts will be along in a jiffy!"

He closes the double doors to the common room and vanishes into the kitchen.

Breakfast is 1 silver shilling each, plus 4 shillings for the private use of the common room, making a total of 13 sp. I will deduct this amount from the loot rather than from individual purses.

Mads awaits his turn in the busy street, observing all manner of folk moving about their daily business. Almost all of them are Men, merchants, artisans, apprentices and dogsbodies getting about their tasks, but some few are short, fat, and lavishly well dressed Goblins -- Snorks -- waddling to and fro on their own errands. A couple of these are accompanied by armed Men, but none of them pay any particular notice to Mads, nor anyone else. Business just continues as usual.

The barber is quick and efficient, dealing with the two clients ahead of Mads in scarcely half an hour, and charging each Man just 4 copper pennies for the service.

"Now sir," says the barber to Mads, "I am Conrad, at your service. Shall we get underway?"

Mads hops into the seat and allows the focussed, smooth faced, dark haired Man to get about his business. He is neat and professional and doesn't ask prying questions. A short quarter hour later Mads' formerly lank and gritty beard and hair have all been cleaned and trimmed down to a very neat respectable appearance. Conrad gives Mads a quick look at himself in a small hand-held mirror, and the fighting Man barely knows himself!

In all it is a very pleasing result, and Mads has no issue with the 4 copper pennies charged.

"Until next time, sir," says Conrad, and bows curtly at the waist as he allows Mads room to stand up and brush himself down.

Conrad's next customer, a grubby looking tawny-haired farm lad, is already waiting.

Albert and his staff of two round kitchen maids bring out a great copper basin of steaming water and soap and hand towels for each of you to wash down your grubby mitts and faces. It is a rare luxury -- but almost before you are done with it the breakfast spread is being laid on before you.

The smells of hot tea, coffee, coco and honey fill the air with as these beverages are bought out in mugs and huge steaming jugs and set before you with sugar, milk and cream. Those who overnighted in the barn all but dive into these invigorating drafts as a generous round of fresh wholemeal breads, slabs of perfectly scorched toast and a great basket of buttery white scones are delivered to the table with ample wedges of butter, pots of jam and marmalade as well as yet more cream, honey and conserves. Finally a wide basket of freshly cut fruits enough for all is placed before you.

"Oi hope that'll do fer you all gent'elmen," doffs Albert as he backs out into the kitchen as you feast hungrily, "An now oi'll be leaving ye to yer privacy til afore noon. If there's anythin else, jus holler!"

You hardly notice his departure as you chug down great mugs of coffee and hoe through bats of bread and scones. It is a basic but wholesome feast and much appreciated after nigh on a week of trail rations.

After but one draft of hot tea Padrig takes up his watchful position at the door while the rest of the company happily cram the warming food and drink down.
