(084) The Churchcroft Cellar

[Tonneau]

Lemmi weighs up what-is-behind against what-might-be-ahead, and quickly decides to follow the light.

She shifts the dagger to a reverse grip and, silently as a cat, picks a path through the ruin of the room in pursuit of the light bearer.

Chiron slowly and quietly attempts to open the door.

Lemmi creeps into the corridor and right away sees Chiron about 30ft along the passage way to her left. The scholarly-sort appears to be having some difficulty in nudging a door ajar; it appears to be stuck.

Lemmi pauses for only a moment before she stands and sheaths her dagger.

"Yer no muscle-man hidin' under them robes then", she observes.

Chiron stifles a scream and turns to look at Lemmi.

Ho, not all the looters are eaten by angry dragons. How fare the others?

[Tonneau]

"Grub for the wyrm? I was a bit busy pretend'n ta be filth, but last I saw they was fleein' with the beastie on their tails." says Lemmi, approaching the door and eyeing it over, "But then, no use cryin' over spoil't rat, as mi ma used ta say", she adds with a wry grin.

She nods at the door, "Shall we pool ar resources, so ta speak?"

If Chiron is willing, she will aid him in trying to force the door

Chiron replies, My goal was to find those cavemen we ran into earlier and see if I could enspell them into helping. I needed new allies since our party was scattered. Are you in agreement with that plan of action or should we head back to the bar and try to recruit some more muscle? I still retain a few silvers...

The mage turns to face Lemmi. Also, if we're going to continue together, I need your promise that all treasure will be shared equally. No more pocketing loot for yourself while I guard your back.

[Tonneau]

"Sir! What are you implyin' with such baseless acc'sashuns?" says Lemmi, the shock showing clearly on her small face.

"Y'am buy a humble street urchin, uz got just enuf nous to see her way in this ere dark city. Wouldn't dream o' cheatin' ur good self outa anything ya got comin'," she says with the deepest sincerity, "I'll follow ya lead, if ya dont mind, as I sure dont know anythin' 'bout no enspellin'."

Chiron makes room for Lemmi and the pair attempt to open the door.

One, two, three, BOOF! The pair shoulder the door together, and it gives way. They virtually tumble into the room beyond; Lemmi recovering her balance swiftly, and Chiron not quite so much.

Initially, they are startled by what might have been wild beasts; but within a moment they reaslise the occupants of the room are inanimate statues. It is a 50ft wide, dark space about half as deep. The walls seem to have been partially excavated to provide materials for the animal statues here. There are about half a dozen of them, and plenty of stone chips and detritus on the floor around them... the only other way out seems to be an open archway almost directly opposite.
