Melee is resolved next.
(Those already engaged in the fighting will attack first, by initiative Krystin 1d6=6, Dieter 1d6=4(+1), Captain 1d6=5, Foe 1d6=2).
Krystin dashes the offending spear from her bloody breast and shouts an Elvish curse at her foe as she redoubles her attack (1d20=5) but the spear stroke has thrown her balance and her counter attack is overrushed and ineffectual. But at the least she has kept her already stunned foe on the back foot, for his own stabs and slashes are mistimed and just wide of the mark (1d20=11).
Meanwhile Deiter grits his teeth against his fresh wound and battles valiantly agains the huge Hobgoblin Captain. Sword and mace ring and clatter upon shield and shaking cobbles in a furious exchange until both pull back for a breath. "Is that all you've got?" slurs the horrid Captain, and spits a spray of bloody saliva off his curled lips and fangs and then leaps in another round of great lashes, met in kind by Dieter's powerful sword slashes! At last the two come together with an almighty clash (Dieter 1d20=11, Captain 1d20=8) locking blade and mace together in a tight face to face tussle. "Your.. breath.. stinks!" utters Dieter as he strains mightily against his foe, before both fighters disengage once more!
At that moment Taines and Victor charge home!
Taines targets the Captain just as he breaks off from Dieter, (1d20=4) but the field is too crowded and he cannot find the time or the space to make his axe known.
Meanwhile, Victor charges the opposite flank like a bull, entering the fray with an enormous swing of his morningstar (1d20=20!) smashing it unceremoniously into the side of Krystin's opponent's head, piercing headgear, skull and eyeball with half a dozen 6 inch spikes causing a gruesome splatter of dark blood and (3dd=1,3,4) 5 hit points. The force of the blow crushes the helm and drives the poor fellow's head through the remainder of Victor's arc and to the ground. Victor will have to prise his weapon free of the twitching corpse before using it again.
The last of the engaged Hobgoblins is forced back by Victor's wild assault but then retailiates, attempting a counter stab with his spear (1d20=7) but he has been forced too far afeild by Victor's violence to attack effectively.
As the battle unfolds, Mads moves to hold the tower door, his antique axe held formidably before him, while Caine sidles out of the tower and attempts to flank of the entire combat -- but as he moves out wide he sees two more of the enemy approaching from the north!
