Re: Out Of Character

One thing I'm still really keen to deliver on is the hyperlinked DD rules online. I have a "mostly" working first version on my PC. It has a few warts, sure, but with a little bit more work (e.g., inclusion of the credits and license) it is probably good enough to make public "as is".

This would be an extremely useful resource for Hinterlands, and for all DD games, and probably for many OSR-type games in general. It's kinda frustrating that I've been so close for so long but I've not found time to finish it. I put it down to: "Life; what happens while you're busy making other plans."

But enough with the excuses! Time to finish it! :o

Re: Out Of Character

Okay folks, I smashed it out over the weekend; the DD Reference Rules are now online as a hypertext document! See here:

http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=403

Although it's still quite immature it should--at least in theory--be a very handy resource for the players here (including me!), as well as other DD games.

If you notice any "funny links" (there are lots of them) or other issues that need addressing, please post your remarks over in the DD Hypertext subforum.

So now I can get back into the Hinterlands headspace at last... :geek:

Good to see you DoctorX -- I was beginning to worry for Josiane ;)

Re: Out Of Character

All, I trialed a different way of tracking PC "vitals" over in the DD Demo Game 2014 recently which worked out okay, so I'm going to try it here too.

So, whenever I write your PC's name in the in game thread, instead of just bolding it like I have been doing, I am going include a stat line in the tool tip. So if you hover your mouse pointer over your PC's name, you should see a popup that shows a basic stat line including what you're carrying in each hand and how many hit points you have left. Like this: [p Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,16/16]Dieter[/p] .

Above we can see Dieter is a Man carrying mail, helm, sword, and shield, with a move rate of 9" and 16 of 16 hit points remaining.

If someone is carrying a light source, their name will also be highlighted like this:
[pp Maiden,leather+helm,sword,torch,12,9/9]Josiane[/pp]

I have also added two warning states. If ever a PC could possibly be killed by one normal hit (1-6 hit points of damage) their name will be rendered in orange, like this: [6 Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,5/16]Dieter[/6].

Or worse, if ever a PC will be killed by the next hit (i.e., has only 1 hit point) their name will be rendered in red, like this: [1 Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,1/16]Dieter[/1].

Hopefully this will give everyone a little bit more information "in line". We'll see how it goes...

p.s. I'll still be maintaining the vital statistic spread sheet in parallel, at least for a while.

Re: Out Of Character

That is one of the spiffiest things I've seen in quite a while.

You continue to go above and beyond the call of duty in bringing this game to us.

Thank you!

I'm refining the craft of PBP by trial and error as we go along ;)

Glad you're still enjoying it !

Re: Out Of Character

Is the mouse-over function a phpBB tool, Simon? Standard option? Or is that something you or Mike is doing behind the scenes with coding?

It's a custom tag I've added to this board. It would be *awesome* if I could get it to fill the parameters automatically by look up of a PC name, but it's not that advanced (I have to provide all the detail with each use of the tag--which means I copy'n'paste a lot).

Truth is, I'm not sure whether PHPBB allows a remote lookup from, say, the Google Sheet where I maintain all the PC info. Now that would be a huge time saver!

Thanks, ways! Sorry if I've been a little quiet - work got stupidly busy in all sorts of ways and I found myself having to do a lot of stuff I shouldn't have had to to make sure everything went ahead as planned. I've been keeping up to date on the action but really haven't had time or energy for proper posting.

Anyway, everything seems to be back on track (for now. :? ) Fear not, Gustave! Josiane to the rescue! :D
