OOC: Olaf tried that a few days ago but we haven't heard the results yet. I've been waiting to hear.

Olaf again tries applying the torch to the edge of the creeping thing...any result at all from the heat?

The Infirmary

Dorgan takes Wen's torch and cautiously prods the ever-encroaching amoeba with the burning brunt of it. This produces a constant sizzling and a foul smelling steam as the torch pushes into the jelly-like substance, but the hungry puddle seems otherwise unaffected, although its direction changes subtly so that it continues to quest more directly toward Dorgan.

When the torch is pulled back it it seems unharmed other than being wet with stringy slime; its flame now sputtering pathetically...

Desmond/Mondes, Armando, and Gustave ally peer questioningly into the newly revealed passage... it is cool, smooth, clean, and wide enough only for one. A small chamber can be just barely be glimpsed, perhaps 30 or 40ft farther in...

Demsond/Mondes ambulates into the passage, his dual noggins surveying every surface gyroscopically but finding naught worth pausing for. A short way in is the secret chamber, built for perhaps three or four Hobbits it would seem. Two or three big folk might plausibly be able to occupy the same space.

Demsond/Mondes pauses before the entry, holding his sputtering torch aloft so that its rusty glare is cast into the space. It is plain and spare; but apparently some kind of store. There is a small wooden table across the room, upon which there appear to be a few wooden cups and bowls. Partially beneath the table, at a haphazard angle, is a modest lockbox and the shapeless lump of a Hessian sack. In the far corner there stands a gnarly old stick that might be a piece of drift wood.

Gustave follows Desmond/Mondes into the gloom, hoping against hope that they have at last found the wine cellar.

Wen would note the lack of effect from the torch and then speak. "The beast does not burn, that is not good! Let's see how it likes metals". . With that Wen would draw one of his daggers and try to throw it directly into the oozing puddle.

Before moving any further into the room, Desmond/Mondes gets low to the down and looks across the floor, about a foot off the ground, checking for trip wires.

If he spots none, he steps forward and approaches the desk. Using the tip of his sword, he tries to flip open the edges of the sack to see what is inside.

"Highbough, you want to check out that stick? Can't imagine any reason for keeping it in a secret room, unless it is important somehow..."
