"A more than fair offer", replies Gustave to Jurgen's offer of a gold coin for the foreign coins (and noting a prodding of his foot), "consider it done."

"As for the other, we have quite a quantity in fact - how many would your be interested in? Perhaps if your collector is keen, we can come to some...arrangement?"

Dorgan (Wis 8) has no idea how the negotiations are progressing so he keeps quiet and continues to listen to Gustave.

He does start to do the math in his head though, and wonders if perhaps the moneychangers might not give them a better price for the nickel and brass coins...

The negotiations over the electrum coins are far too important to quibble over a single gold crown at this point, however...

"I don't suppose you have any sort of clerical spell that would return my well being do you?" Olaf asks of Josiane then adds, "Do you think the Temple priests would do me any good? Maybe drinking some of that holy water, or paying them to say some prayers for me?"

"I am sorry, my Lord," says Josiane, a look of haunted regret casting a shadow across her fair face; "I regret that the curse in these wounds is beyond the power of my meager magics to cast out. Let us see what the skills of the Sisters can achieve. "

"Beyond that all I can think to do is petition the Archbishop of Thuul himself," she adds; "The power within him is strong enough to cast out any darkness. But his seat is in the city of Maine, and Maine is far away."

"I am... sorry I have brought this upon you," she adds hesitantly and in a slightly husky voice; "This was my quest. I dragged you all into this darkness. And yet it is you and poor Wibert and Sir Pelenwin who have borne the consequences. I cannot express my regret enough."

She is blinking back the tears again.

The Erstwhile Emporium
(Gustave, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan)

Jurgen coughs again then scratches at his jowls.

"A proper collector is interested in scarcity first, then condition second. If you have too many of these things they'll hardly be scare, will they? On the other hand, if each one is somehow different or unique, a collector might be interested in a complete set, and so on."

He looks like he might sneeze, but doesn't. Then eying Gustave again...

"If you've got half a dozen of 'em, I'll take 'em fer... three gold crowns. Then I'll run 'em up to an associate in Maine, and we'll see if there's a market for 'em, shall we?"

"And how long do you think that'll take?!" exclaims Mondes.

Jurgen looks confused a moment, trying to focus on where the voice might have come from under the wide hood.

"Could be three weeks for a train there and back, in good weather. Maybe four."
says Jurgen matter of factly. "A good rider on a swift horse could do it in under one, they reckon."

Upstairs at the Manse

"Where did he acquire these?" he wonders as he carefully studies the ancient runes and glyphs.
At last, with the fuss of the morning meal done, and the others off on whatever business they deem necessary, Ulric gets some time to himself in the peace of his private room.

At long last he is able to take a closer look at the scrolls he "recovered" when Flewellen the Plunderer fell in battle. There is no way of knowing where the strange Man came by them, but it is clear they are a prize... they have been created with great care and a great craft, that much is obvious. The script is a recent Merovingian form, so the scrolls must logically have been constructed within the last century; probably much more recently judging by their condition. Perhaps Flewellen himself penned them? But the script is of a different hand to the many writings in Flewellen's own journal, despite it being in the same tongue, so they were likely created by some unnamed third party then... interesting.

(3d6=5, 3, 6)

All this aside, the script is clear and concise, and it is apparent to Ulric right away that there are three sorceries on the scrolls, and that these incantations are named The Effable Apperception (a spell which Ulric has already learned from The Abridged Tongues of the Underworld -- a tome which, incidentally, still contains mysteries of its own), The Trammel, and The Benumbed Cincture.

These spells seems to be of a complexity which might be solved in a day (or perhaps two) of meditation...

The day wiles its way slowly onward with no sign of a Sister... or any other visitor, for that matter. It is not yet even noon, however.

The Goblins are yet to return from the market with any form of repast.

Josiane wonders how many ills would want for treating in a town the size of Ket... and how many Sisters there might be tending this mission..?

With that he departs with his comrades, heading for the money changer for a second opinion.
