My vote is to open the door.

The passage goes 40', then looks like it opens into a large room. On the west wall, 20' down, is a door
Is the large room quite empty?

Yes, let's open the west door and see where it leads.

Re: Delve the 11th

It is. I'll describe it later, but the floor is covered with sand.

The door opens onto a 20x30 room with a sumptuous bed, and a chest by its foot

Re: Delve the 11th

"Ooh the chest is probably full of treasure!" exclaims Franklin. He's too far back in the marching order, he probably hasn't pushed his way into the 20x30 room yet, so let's say he and Sconces are keeping watch in the hallway.

Re: Delve the 11th

No additional exits in this bedroom?

Wiglaff suggests (but would like additional input of course) that we move into the bedroom, leave the door to the sand room open, post guards there with missiles, and inspect the bedroom:

Check the bed for items of interest (inc. the bedframe, bedding, & mattress)
Check the chest for signs of traps (check the floor around it with a poking tool, visually inspect for small holes, tip gently to determine if it is attached to the floor)
Check the walls (and behind the bed if it's against a wall) for secret doors (Wiglaff can do this)

Ideally we also scan the chest for magic but that's up to Rhod.

If the chest doesn't seem trapped, lift a bit (gently) to determine its weight. Depending on that, we can either take it with us or open it up & redistribute the contents.

Re: Delve the 11th

Actually, the first thing Rhod will do is use his sword to Detect Metal. That should tell us if there is treasure in the chest, at least of the metallic type. And it might also indicate any metal bits of traps that might exist, too.

Re: Delve the 11th

Maloof agrees with Wiglaff's plan, and while awaiting the results of Rhod's metal-detection he pokes about the bed with his mace for items of interest.

(OOC: Maloof has Find Traps memorised, if anything suspicious comes up in our searches he could use that.)

Aldbane helps search the bed and area with Maloof.

Rhod detects a sizeable amount of gold in the chest, and no other suspicious bits

The rest of the room is empty of anything of value or interest
