Franklin first and foremost wouldn't want his friends in any danger! He keeps the gargoyles at bay with his magic sword while the plan is being discussed.

Balbo and Drogo are keeping an eye out for the return of the blob.

"Fly, you fools!" Franklin yells at Balbo and Drogo to skedaddle through the door. Franklin draws his magic sword while his henchmen each retrieve a flask of oil from their packs. They wait and hold this action to see whether the blob survives Aldbane's oil and eats through the door.

(To clarify, I imagine Franklin & Co are following Maloof, but hugging the right-hand wall, steering clear of the balrog trap. Perhaps they are moving in single-file formation.)
