The room on level 2 that has been mapped as room 24 was searched and found bare. But my notes say there is a trap door in the middle of the room, and it is not hidden, so if you care, a room northwards of you contains an unexplored trap door

Franklin suggests dropping a lit torch down the shaft to get a better look. (But he does not have any torches of his own to volunteer.) The thought of a deeper dungeon level makes him feel frightened, yet curious.

Wiglaff instructs Edgar to light a torch & drop it down.

It drops down maybe 30 or 40 feet, and lands with a thud on some earthy ground. About 10 seconds later, you see more of those pale skinned undead shuffle into site at the bottom of the ladder, and then they look up

Franklin drops the oil. He expects it will splash all over the undead creatures, and be ignited by the lit torch at the bottom of the shaft.
