Re: (062) The Basal

Desmond enters the room and looks about to see what was disturbed. He takes note of whether or not the lights that came on before return when they enter the room.

Re: (062) The Basal

The room remains semi-dark as Desmond/Mondes sidles in, dual noggins looking here, looking there, looking everywhere for any clue...

Alas, it's more a question of what hasn't been disturbed. The reliquary has clearly been vandalised with determination since your last visit. The three statues in their decorated naves have been toppled and pummeled with sledges and maces, and their are profane marks smeared across the alabaster walls that are clearly visible even in the dimness. It is not a happy sight... yet no threat is forthcoming and that, at least, is something.

Dorgan drags himself into the room and sits down almost immediately inside the door. The poor dwarf is almost exhausted, his mail coat hangs heavily on his shoulders...

OOC :: The last time we were here, there was also a secret door that opened onto a passage leading to another small chamber, which contained the light-trap. Ways, is that secret door still open, or has it been closed? ::

Re: (062) The Basal

Desmond turns to Josiane and asks, "You notice anything? The room stayed dark. The last time we were here, the room lit up on its own. You think it's because it's been desecrated? Can you... I don't know... bless it again or something?"

He stares down at the destroyed statues and frowns. "Stupid brutes. Stupid evil dog-worshiping brutes."

"How'd they find this place, then? I wasn't able to see when we were leaving... was the trap door closed and hidden?"

Desmond checks to see if the secret passage was also located, then heads to the wall niche where the first statue with the fountain was to see if it can still be used as a source of clean water.

| If it hasn't been discovered, anyone who is of the Lawful disposition might consider resting behind the warded doorway in the secret room. At the very least, they would have extra protection if the party was set upon. Or... we could open up the passage and all of the Lawfuls could enter the secret chamber and we could see if there is enough room in the passage for any Neutrals to stay in there. Then we close the secret passage and effectively hide the party behind a secret door. |

Highbough hesitates at the threshold, conflicted by what he senses. He will linger at the rear of the marching order and keep lookout while the lawful-types investigate within.

Olaf stops and asks, "What is it Highbough? Do you sense something?"

"I'm fine, just tell Josiane to hurry up with the Gustave-finding ritual," replies the cranky old Elf.

(OOC: Nothing wrong particularly... just indicating that Highbough would keep watch at the doorway while the party rests, and would be disinclined to hole up inside the secret lawful box unless there was an immediate threat. Remember the party first encountered Highbough imprisoned by ogres; the Grey Elf yearns above all to be free!)

Re: (062) The Basal

The secret passage is, apparently, still secret. Or--at least--is closed for the moment. There is a profane rune smeared right across it and the wall adjacent, possibly serving to inadvertently obscure it further.

"I will do so." Olaf says and continues into the room.

Going over to Josiane he says quietly, "The old elf said to tell you to hurry with your scrying. I think he feels uncomfortable in this room. Maybe nothing or it could be that he senses something."

Re: (062) The Basal

| Okay, so at this point I have the company entire within the defiled reliquary. The main door is open (no mechanism to close it has been located). The secret door to the "hidden chamber" is closed.

This is a prime location to "hole up" for a rest, a meal, or while Josiane/Ulric/Wen utilise the Queerious Speculem, or while other plans are made.

If any of the above is planned, please state who (if anyone) will take watch duty while the former occurs, and where they would be stationed (remembering that anyone who watches does not benefit from a rest).

What now then? |
