Thanis looks at the statue's head, arms, and legs to see if it looks like anything used to be on them or in them. If he comes up empty there, he looks around the room to see if anything's been discarded that may be of use here.

The statues limbs and joints look as seamless as could be. The arms are outstretched with empty hands held openly in a gesture of welcome or gathering the whole. Likewise, the cowled head does not appear to be missing anything, and neither is there any implement or tool lying around the room.

Behind the statue there is the broad, semi-circular reredos, full of aged intricacies. Above that is an array of damaged stained-glass windows extending 20ft or more upward to the lofty, pitched ceiling. Despite their poor condition, the windows are still illuminated magnificently by the ivory daylight outside...

Is there some sort of offering we should put into the hands? Garamon shrugs and looks toward Goldwen.

Stern investigates the intricate reredos. Is the decorative panel flush with the wall, or free-standing? If it is free-standing, then Stern peeks behind it. If it is flush with the wall, then Stern taps each section with his knuckles, listening for a hollow sound. Despite his great strength, he taps with reverence.

If all other investigations fail to yield any info, Thanis attempts to gently raise, lower, and twist the arms and hands of the statue. He also closely examines the eyes to see if they resemble buttons to be pushed.

Stern investigates the rederos while Thanis and Garamon continue to avail themselves of the statue...

While the latter is unyielding to inquiry, the former is a rich artwork in deep bass relief graven into the rear wall.
It depicts half a dozen, almost life-sized figures supplicating themselves respectfully--three to each of the wings--to more divine figure in the center from which an impression of light radiates. The central figure is poised like the statue. But unlike the statue, the rederos is hewn from regular stone and would have once been illuminated with lavish gold and silver leaf. Now it is looted and pillaged, and much defiled by countless blasphemous blows. The central figure is likewise dinged and punished; her arms appear cracked, almost like they might fall off...

Shrugging, Garamon places a gold (??) coin in each upturned palm of the statue, and steps back.

Goldwen examines the stained glass windows to see if she can determine what scenes they show (showed) and if that provides them with any clue as to where the entrance to the underground city may be.
It feels like we're missing something here...

Maybe we should try this: "It depicts half a dozen, almost life-sized figures supplicating themselves respectfully--three to each of the wings"

Excellent idea, Sully. Let's try that, as well!

By the by, every time I say your name in my head, I'm reminded of Commando.

"Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?"
"That's right, John, you did!"
"I lied."

hahahahaha what a great line. Terrible movie. Lots of filming errors. The most amazing M-60 with Infinity Ammo ever shown on film! But it had some great lines.
