Robur somersaults to safety. The gas dissipates harmlessly, and Robur feels back to normal after washing his face. He is quite sure there's more gas inside the chest, and he would have gotten a full dose if not for his quick reflexes.

What next?

Bilfur steps back to get away from the gas residue once clear he asks , " we could use a 10ft pole to open the chest yes?"
Now there's a mental image: 3 foot hobbet with a 10 foot pole!

It doesn't look like any of the PCs has a 10' pole in their inventory.

"Whew, that was close!" says Robur wolfing down a large aged cheddar and peppered sandwich meat rye bread sandwich with a hint of mustard and mayonnaise. "We could try smashing it with rocks. We're all pretty good at that!"

Dougal enters the room and tries to examine the chest to see if there is any way to disarm the trap.

Kiplyn would ask Dougal Is it bolted down or can we drag out of there? Or maybe sling it around and attach a grappling hook we can spring it from out here."

OOC: Dougal's disarm trap check, 1d6=5, success!

Dougal carefully inspects the chest. He determines that the pressurized gas is contained inside a pig bladder, which is "pinched" shut by the lid of the chest. Dougal thinks, if he ties it off like a balloon, it will prevent further escape of gas.

With his nimble fingers and advanced knot-tying skills, Dougal is able to accomplish the task. He holds in his hands a bladder full of poison gas!

Underneath the gas bladder, Dougal finds a gorgeous suit of chainmail and a quality steel shield. The shield is painted with the heraldic image of a ferocious war-hog. (Both items are hobbet-sized.)

Dougal examines the chainmail to see if it shows any signs of being elven-made.

"Well... at least I have this," he says, holding the bladder of poisonous gas.

Dougal thinks the armor looks hobbet-made from the standard materials, and, alas, it would not be appropriate for a Burglar.

(We haven't "unlocked" elves yet in this campaign. ;))

Is he going to keep the poison gas bladder, perhaps with hopes of weaponizing it in the future?

"Well done Dougal!" says Robur. "You're a better burglar than I. Those look finely made, but alas I too need my clothing light as I'm something of a dabbler and I can't cast or thieve with those accoutrements. Perhaps another of us...?"
