The Ninth Adventure

January 6, Dungeon Level 1

The party heads west to fill in an unexplored area of the map. North of area 31 is a rubble-choked passageway. Our heroes scramble over the rubble and find an uninhabited cave.

In an alcove at the western end of the cave is a treasure chest! It resembles other treasure chests discovered on past adventures: hardwood, reinforced with iron bands. The stereotypical 'pirate treasure' chest, big enough to hold a hobbet (uncomfortably).

In this particular case the chest is locked with a sturdy iron padlock.

Robur motions for others to be careful, and carefully crawls and begins to search for traps by tapping on the floor with his dagger ahead of them, especially around the chest. If things seem all clear, he'll try unlocking the lock if another Hobbit doesn't get in their first.

Dame Simonetta will stand back and let Robur do his thing. She keeps a stern watch on Douglas and Fiona!

OOC: Secret 1d6 roll for Find/Detect traps. As a 1st level Thief using the Delving Deeper rules, Robur has a 50% chance of success.

Robur investigates the area around the chest by tapping with his dagger. He does not find any evidence of traps. All clear!

There is space in this alcove for two Hobbets, side by side. Before I resolve Robur's lockpicking check, let me know if anyone else goes in there with him?

Robur deftly picks the big iron lock.

OOC: Open locks check 1d6=6, nice rolling! Unfortunately Robur failed his earlier Detect Traps check, so...

Robur lifts the lid a crack, and is immediately hit in the face with a cloud of vile green gas!

OOC: Robur saving throw, 1d20=13, success!

Thinking quickly, Robur holds his breath, shuts his eyes, and slams the lid, preventing the escape of any more gas. Luckily, Robur's reaction time is quick enough that he did not inhale any of the green gas (or get it his eyes). The skin of his face feels strange and tingly.

The situation: The chest is shut but unlocked. Robur is crouched down in front of the chest, holding his breath. The other hobbets can see there is a small green cloud around Robur's face.

If the gas doesn't dissipate quickly, or Robur can't get out, Noh attempts to throw a rope around him and pull him out of the green mist!

"Whoa!" Beppo exclaimed. He had been watching the entrance, but looked back in time to see the green mist spurt out of the chest.

"We should avoid that!"

Robur will try rolling away while holding his breath and keeping his eyes close. (That is if he remembered, I assume he did, to take off his backpack while looking for traps). If he flops anywhere near his backpack, he will rummage and douse his face and head in water to clean the tingling stuff off his face.
