Douglas and group are heading towards the "well" at 18. Sadly west to 17 provides a better choke point for us if want to try to set up a quick ambush. We need to decide if we split or we all follow the low morale group.

Robur will hold his position and continue firing with his sling.

Kiplyn seems to have gotten out of the fray so he'll try to find a safe nook along the wall to hide in, near his friend as they continue to sling at the blue-meanies . To himself he thinks -- If they try to rush us at least I'll get one of by surprise.....

Wilbur will keep throwing stones, as long as he has ammunition and targets.

"Come back here!" Willie yells over his shoulder, while readying another volley. After loosing he'll take a look back over his shoulder to see where the NPCs are headed, but he continues the missile fight for now.

Dougal likewise continues firing, wondering if they've actually benefited from the three leaving because now they can see the foes easily.

Slightly surprised at dropping one of the foe, and encouraged with a squawk from Carc, Noh fires again.

Round 3

The hirelings disappear to the north with Beppo in hot pursuit.

Bilfur lights a torch before the party is plunged into darkness.

Kiplyn is standing by in the shadows, to backstab the xvarts if they come down the slope.

Dougal misses with his sling, but Robur, Wilbur, Willie, Noh, and Dame Simonetta have much better luck. 4 more of the blue skinned creatures are slain, and another badly wounded.

The xvarts change their tactics: They make an orderly retreat to the south, so that they are out of sight due to the elevation. But our hobbet heroes can tell they haven't gone far for two reasons: First their chattering voices can still be faintly heard, and secondly the faint glow of the faerie fire can be seen indirectly. But neither side has line of sight for missile attacks. Perhaps the xvarts are trying to goad our heroes into charging up the scree-covered slope.

What next, hobbitses?
Xvart attack rolls: 1, 13, 16, 15, 14, 3, 17, 6
Robur takes 3hp (dropping to 4/7hp)
Wilbur takes 3hp (to 10/13hp)
Willie takes 1hp (to 10/11hp)

Party attack rolls (+2 short range, +2 faerie fire)
Dame Simonetta 15, hit for 4hp and kill
Robur 24! hit for 3hp and kill
Wilbur 15 hit for 5hp and kill
Willie 24! hit for 2hp wounding a xvart
Noh 21 hit for 5hp and kill
Dougal 5, miss

total 8 xvarts slain, 1 wounded, 3 healthy
Xvart morale 2d6=8

Technically, I was slightly too generous with the number of creatures affected by the Faerie Fire (should only have affected 4 xvarts) but a) it didn't really change the outcome; and b) it's a cool spell, so I'm okay with it.

Is there enough ceiling clearance to try to lob sling stones in an arc towards the xvarts? In any case, Dame Simonetta will give it a try to find out!
