I've rolled a die to determine which door Wiglaff decided to hold, since he didn't listen before doing it. The oracle says the south door!

So let's form up on the north door & open it and see who's chatting out there.

P.S. We've placed this room on the Level 3 map, but we don't actually know yet which level it's on nor how it's oriented.

Now that we're all down here, do the Dwarfs have any insight on how far we've come down (i.e. which level we're on) or which direction we're facing?

I realize the Dwarf abilities in DD don't actually include either of these abilities, but I figured it's worth a shot. :)

That was added in AD&D, with no reference I can see to the 3LBB or the three supplements, so I think I will pass on that ability

The passage leads 20' to a large room. Standing at the exit of the corridor are two robed men, each holding a wand loosely in their right hand. "Hold right there, strangers" says the man on the right

Franklin complies with the request and freezes in his tracks.

"Greetings! We are but harmless travelers, who might you be?" Aldbane asks.

As he does so, he casts hold person on the pair of men.

This would need gestures and chanting, which would tip off the mages. I would probably at this point roll initiative, and if you failed, your party would get two wand blasts in the face. Do you still wish to try?

In that case, no Aldbane will just leave it at the greetings and see what the men say.

Wiglaff is also content to hear what the magic-users say, but just checking: we've just opened the door, and are standing in the ogre room, correct? So we have a bit of cover, as opposed to if we were standing out in the middle of the corridor? No use of course if one of those wands launches fireballs. :D
