Desmond/Mondes enters the cave proper, closely followed by Dorgan. Dhren is just outside; Ashtad further back.

Inside, it is more of a long crack than a spacious cavern. The entry way can't be more than 10ft wide, and the cave veers off at an oblique angle from there. The main part of the chamber begins about 10ft in and is not quite 20ft wide nor 30ft deep. Beyond this space the fissure narrows for a further 20ft before the cave ends.

The main part of the cave is occupied by the ogre cook-fire and ring of stools; it must have been a bit tight for four of the brutes!

However, it doesn't take a moment for Desmond to spot their secret. A heavy rock on the left hand cave wall--beyond the fireplace--is plainly out of kilter; it must have been pulled across to conceal another tunnel!
Desmond's search roll 1d6=6! Clever Hobbit eyes...
What now?

Ashtad seeing Desmond/Mondes and Dorgan enter the cave, feels concern for a trap and looks around in all directions and listens for any foes, so not to be caught out. With an arrow ready.

Desmond takes a moment to examine the cave floor carefully to make sure nothing was left behind, either buried in the dirt or hidden under a loose stone. He draws his sword and checks to make sure the ground under the fire pit is solid, as well.

Dorgan will stand guard by the tunnel, discovered by Des, in case the ogres return.

"Any sign of our friends?"

Dorgan looks on while Desmond/Mondes gives the cave a quick looking over with his torch; he turns over stones and logs, and pries through the half-eaten ogre-meal left lying about on grubby wooden bowls. By the looks of it, they were busy eating the remains of a luckless rabbit and some yellow grubs dug from the earth--all served in an oily, grey brine. The smell of it is off putting. But any treasure, equipment, or prisoners they might have had have all vanished.

There's no indication that Beringar or Valorn might have been here.

Desmond shakes his head, "Nothing to indicate they was even here, but it seems pretty obvious from the way the trolls was talkin' that they were. And that they received a fate most undeserving of such men... er, and dwarfs." He spits on the smoldering fire then rests one knee on the ground for a moment, murmuring quietly as if offering a prayer to some forgotten god.

Then he stands and loudly says, "Let's clear out of here and make it back with all due haste. I'm sure lord Ulrich will want to know about these ogres and what they did to our friends. I hope he strikes them dead."

Dorgan says, "Yah, I agree. We need ta come back in force, and squash these beasts. Too bad I gotta go to Elf-land first."

The dwarf will step back outside and signal for the others to come over. Then he'll share what they saw inside the cave and see if everyone is on board with returning to the abbey immediately.

When they are outside the ogre cave, Desmond extinguishes the torch (careful to avoid the oil-soaked ground near the cave entrance) and ostensibly places it in his pack with his other partially-used torch.

Dorgan will stop Des from extinguishing his torch until they're clear of the cave entrance.

"Just in case them ogres pop back out before we leave."

Sorry, my real goal with that post was just to sneak the partially used torch into Desmond's pack. ;) Never hurts to have a little extra light source on ya.
