The descent turns perpendicular to the right twice, and then Pelenwin emerges in a great, dark, L-shaped chamber. As Gustave emerges onto the landing his lantern scarcely fills the extent of the space.
The Men find themselves upon a triangular shaped dias, with four broad, stone steps leading down to the floor proper. The chamber extends some 60ft away from the stair in two directions, with exits being scarcely visible at the far end of the room in either direction.
The chamber is ancient and littered with dust and stone rubble throughout. Moreover, there stand some score of crude warrior-statues carved in relief along the walls. An honour guard of sorts, overlooking the path to either door.
All is still and quiet.
