An iron door sits staidly in the face of the canyon wall above a narrow rocky ledge in the pre-dawn quiet.

Suddenly it creaks inward without forewarning, and Pelenwin emerges from the stale dark tunnel to stand upon the brink in the pre-dawn semi-dark to inhale the gloriously crisp air...

Ulric sighs as his magic fails him.

"The cart and our comrades are further up the ravine," he says to Pelenwin. "At least I hope they are."

Ulric draws his father's sword and prepares to follow the others outside. He readies the words for the Anthracite Sufferance in his mind, confident that the flames have never failed him.

Highbough the Cypher hefts his spear and lurks invisibly in the shadows near the entrance, prepared to invoke The Trammel, should it become necessary to secure the door behind us.

(OOC) What is the casting range of The Trammel? Can it be used to slam and lock a door from a distance?

Highbough knows from experience that The Trammel will work at up to 10ft per caster level.

Pelenwin, and then Mads, steps out onto the narrow ledge, while the invisible Highbough remains in the doorway with the others muttering and whispering behind him.

Both Men stand up straight, stretching their backs, as they peer about. The first hint of coral orange is visible on the underside of the clouds away over the horizon -- the sun still being well below the shadow of the rocky chasm.

The air is chill and damp, and the ravine about the old backdoor is a dark alley -- run perpendicular and full of awkward rocks, boulders and even deeper shadows. A gentle babble reveals the near by stream even though it cannot be seen.

Ulric's lantern light, still half a dozen paces back in the tunnel is by far stronger than the faint beginnings of the new dawn.

There is no sign nor sound of Victor, Fix and Boris. If they are as good as their word, they will still be a few hundred yards back down the ravine -- where the floor is less rocky.

"Somebody should scout ahead to the cart before we drag this treasure into the open," suggests Highbough.

He looks for a good perch or hiding spot within 10' of the door so he can move out of the way, while remaining in range to invoke The Trammel if necessary.
