Alas, the floor is so covered in dust and ash that it is impossible to see what lies beneath it...

There are, however, plentiful wounded. Desmond and Gustave are both incapacitated nearby. Mads the Fair lies slain.

Across the room Dieter and Pelenwin are already being seen to by Ulric.

"This place is no walkin the park, we must be more careful! Look our friend is dead!", says Wibert. He goes over to Mads to see if there is any hope of helping him and to see if he is truely dead. "I did not know thee long, but rest well my friend. You will be remembered", speaks Wibert to Mads.

Alas, it is true!

Mads the Fair lies slain. There is naught that Wibert can do for him.

Wibert will look at the floor and examine the room to find out what triggered the monster foes. Was it a tile on the floor or a trip wire. Then carefully examine one of the bodies and then where one foe come from for anything he can find out.

The floor is covered in a thick film of ash. It has been cleared haphazardly by feet moving in the melee, but partially obscured again by the cinders laid down by the exploding demons.

There is nothing left of the foe, save for this layer of ash.

Wibert gently brushes some of the ash aside with his hand, so that he can see a few of the flagstones beneath. The first few appear to be plain flagstones approximately 2ft square. But one of them he finds is decorated by a meaningless glyph or pattern...

Unimpressed by this, Wibert shrugs and moves deftly to one of the statues where it squats in its alcove. Now that he looks at it closely, it has an unpleasant appearance... a wicked soldier in a foul temper, perhaps?

Ulric and Highbough give water to the grievously injured and free uncomfortable armour from the worst of their hurts.

In a minute or so Dieter, Pelenwin, Gustave and Desmond are all roused to a bleary consciousness.

Each of them has been beaten about -- but they will live, it seems. For now.

Gustave sits up, dribbling water from the corner of his mouth. He nods appreciatively at Highbough, apparently and uncharacteristically unable to verbalise at present.
He looks himself over, regarding the shredded and heavily soiled garments and armour with a deeply furrowed brow, before managing in a croak, "need that...bath...soon".
