Dieter will hunt again, in whatever seems like the most likely place nearby. He'll invite his comrades to join him, as usual.

Olaf has had his eyes open for signs of game as the day passed by. When Dieter heads out to hunt, he joins him and they try to find *something* to blunt everyone's hunger.

Spying the haze in the distance Olaf shades his eyes and stands still while he stares into the distance.

"It *could* be a grass fire." Olaf muses as he continues to look a worried expression on his face, "If it is, we'll either need to outpace it or find shelter before it reaches us."

Olaf adds, "Long before it reaches us, if it is a fire, herds of animals will come stampeding this way, too. That could be a dangerous situation to find ourselves in."

If the wind is calm, HIghbough might attempt to cast the Smaze to climb into the air and get a better look at the blackness on the horizon (or signs of nearby tasty animals).

Which direction is the wind from? And where in relation to us is this haze?

The wind is a mere fitful breeze, so Highbough conjures his gaseous stair and climbs upon it way in to the air so that he might have a proper look around from a fair vantage... (and draw any curious eye for miles about!)

From a height he gazes east to the forlorn ruin, and to Ket and the hazy sky beyond. He has an inkling that the haze is a pall of smoke near or beyond the township. Something that way burns, but it is impossible to say what; it is too far off yet. With the gentle breeze at his back there is not even the faintest tang of char upon the air.

Meanwhile, Dieter, Olaf, and a couple of others set about hunting and gathering.

These are proper solider-folk who while away the hours honing their sword- and spear-craft, and so they are not especially talented hunters... but they are hungry ones, and hunger can be a strong motivator...

...but alas! After several hours of searching, foraging, digging, tracking, and laying in wait they come up empty handed. It is proper dark before they return to the camp site, as hungry and grumpy as ever. There is naught to do but tighten the belts another notch and try to get some sleep...

Dorgan builds a humble fire in the lee of a few small rocks to at least attract the insects and provide a smidgen of warmth for the evening. Mondes tries to eat his shirt buttons, but they prove altogether unsatisfactory.

Night comes.

And night passes.

The company awake early to yearning hunger pains in their empty bellies. There is nothing for breakfast, so they quickly break camp and wearily shoulder their packs and arms.

The smeary of smoke-haze in the direction of Ket seems to have cleared overnight. The day promises to be clear and warm. You have water for half a day, but anticipate encountering several small streams within a few hours march. You have no food; and everyone is at the brink of weakness...

What are your orders for this new day?
