Now that everything seems to be clear, Maloof snoops around the wizardly paraphernalia looking for any potions, wands, etc. (Detect Magic might be useful too, but Maloof can't do that...)

Franklin is intrigued by the vents/holes on the ceiling. He is thinking, if he can get his ear right up next to one of the individual holes, maybe he can make out the conversation? (Using his racial Listen ability).

How high is the ceiling? If he stands on the bed, can he get close enough for a better listen?

ceiling is about 8' high, the little fellow is too short

Wiglaff hoists Franklin to stand on his shoulders, so he can listen at one of the vents.

(Thanks, Wiglaff! Franklin was going to suggest using his mercenaries to make a hobbit pyramid, but Wiglaff's suggestion is better.)

He can't make out anything distinct, but he starts to feel uneasy after a while. Sleeping in here would probably drive you insane

Assuming Franklin relays this disturbing news, let's move on. We'll quickly check the bed (under blankets, under pillow, and pat the mattress) for any valuables, and then head back into room 22 (see recent map) and try the north-east door.

Among the personal effects in this room are three large, illuminated manuscripts that look like spell books
