So where to next?

Back through both secret doors (skip the ROUS's for now), east through room 19 (say hello but don't touch the furniture), through two more secret doors, polite greetings to Hades, & south to room 41. Assuming they get that far without incident, Wiglaff will cast light into the dark room.

No encounters bar your way, and when the light is cast, it banishes the darkness, to reveal a narrow 10' x 30' room, that stretches north and south, centered on the door. There is a small bag along the north wall. The floor is peppered with sharp, 3 inch iron spikes

Are there similar spikes on the ceiling? Do the spikes move or jiggle when poked, or are they solidly set? How far apart are the spikes spaced, could someone walk through by carefully placing their feet between the spikes?

No spikes on the ceiling. The spikes are firm. A hobbit could probably move through the spikes carefully

Franklin's time to shine! The little hobbit carefully picks his way between the spikes and retrieves the bag.

The maneuver is completed with success! Inside are four nice, shiny gems

"I am ready to explore deeper. To the elevator!" agrees Franklin.

"To the elevator!" says Rhod, raising his waterskin.

He looks around.

"Oh," he says, but drinks anyway.
