Wen would offer take third watch, telling Dorgan "Undoubtedly you could stand watch all night, but I get restless before the dawn so I might as well be useful."

If we've enough in the party to double-up on watch, the Desmond offers to take a shift with someone. Two sets of ears might be as useful as one pair of eyes, in the middle of the night, anyway...

"We should have two on each watch," Dieter says. "Wake me for the third watch, please."

And with a full belly and a smile one his face, he rolls over and is soon asleep.

"The swine is a filthy animal," scolds HIghbough, wiping a fleck of worm-guts from his chin. He rolls over in his bedroll and goes back to sleep, with the intention of joining Wen for third watch.

Before he goes to sleep, Dorgan will tear the legs off his pants below the knee and make some wraps for his feet. They will still hurt like hell but hopefully the chances of infection will go down a bit.

If there are volunteers for other shifts, Dorgan will take just the first one.

coffee wrote:"Dusk is when animals come to water to drink," Dieter muses, getting out his sling and bullets. "Olaf, what say you take up your bow and join me?"

he goes down near the stream(s), seeking out any sign of animal tracks while letting his eyes adjust to the darkening sky.
"As you wish. "Olaf says, before he leaves with Dieter though he says to Gustav, "Keep an eye on things here...a sharp eye."

Olaf will take the first watch, alone or with someone else, and get some sleep after. He hopes to get an good night's sleep if he can and to recover some of the energy he has lost.

Josiane will save a little bit of roast pork for her new friend 'Hoot' before doing all she can to wash and bind poor Dorgan's trail-ravaged feet.

"You need rest, my friend," she admonishes the Dwarf gently; "Just the one watch for you. I shall accompany Lord Dieter on the third watch."

Very good...

d6

The night passes. It is relatively mild and the moon is still large in the sky, casting the plains as a silver-blue realm. Those on watch don't get a full night's rest, but enjoy the chorus of summer bugs and wildlife going about their nightly business...

...Envongr's owl eventually returns to roost on Josiane's pack, but otherwise the evening is thankfully uneventful.

Dawn comes with little prospect of anything to eat, and another full day's march. The hobbits are still bemoaning their lost sight... and the day promises to be clear and warm.
