The nearest unexplored area is back to the room with the stone pedestal, there are two other doors there, so that's my vote.

If the party agrees, Maloof will listen at the south door, then open it.

Listening at the door, you hear some muttering, as if a man is talking to himself. You can't make out the words

Maloof signals to the others, then knocks politely on the door and awaits a response. He steps to the side just in case the door comes flying open.

After about 10 seconds, a voice from the other side says "What can I do for you, Maloof the gnome?"

"Aha, you must be a mind reader!" Maloof replies. "Well then, you know I intend no harm. I am just curious to know you are are, what you are doing in this dungeon, and whether we may form a relationship of mutual benefit."

The door opens, to show a 30' square room centered on the door, filled with luxurious carpets and magical apparati and all the trappings of a classic magic-user. Seated at a workbench is a man dressed in black and red robes, staring at an egg-shaped orb, about 5-inches long, that glows with a pale green light. He swivels to face you.

"Have you heard of the Orbs of the Dragonkind?" he asks

"No, I have not. Is that one you have there?" Maloof replies.

"The least powerful - the Ord of the Hatchlings. I came to this dungeon as I heard all five of them are scattered somewhere in the depths. I found this one buried in a room of trash, so I set up a lab to study it. You have to be careful with artifacts - you could end up melting your face off, or worse. If you come across any more in your travels, I am sure we could come up with a mutually beneficial trade"
