Highbough invokes the power of the Ire Spear to blink between Olaf and his attacker.
*** Sleep now, my child! The Cipher has freed you from your curse! *** he caterwauls in the infernal tongue as he plunges the magic spear into the fiend's desiccated flesh.
(OOC: Elves are immune to ghoul paralysis AND level drain, right? right? RIGHT??? )

"NO!!" Desmond shouts as he sees Olaf get hit. He charges at the foul fiend, swinging the cold iron axe in an arc over his heads.

Dorgan is loath to abandon the Miss but their position is dire. He will turn away from Josiane and run to the other side of the hall, hastily sticking his weapons in his belt along the way.
Once he arrives, he will cast about for anything heavy, be it Ulric's partially filled sack of coin or a broken piece of the nearest sarcophagus cover or even scooping handfuls of loose electrum pieces, and pile it on the pressure plate to get the far left door to rise again.

Ulric groans as the words to his spell escape his mind. Not good.
He hurries to aid Dorgan in placing the sack of coins onto the pressure plate while preparing himself for one final spell should the situation worsen. These fiends will not drag me into the abyss.

Gustave recovers from his 'strategic pause' as all hell breaks loose Get a grip of yourself old man - these guys are already dead!
Seeing Olafs blade turned harmlessly aside on striking the frail-looking flesh does nothing for his confidence in the groups chances, nor does the face of the young man upon being struck by the fiends, as life itself seems to seep from his eyes.
"Josiane!" he roars, "Dieter! Get back here - we are leaving!"
He conducts a defensive retreat, making a barrier of himself between the fiends and those attempting to open the portal. Squaring up to the pale horrors, his face is a visage of impending doom...

Seeing his sword bite to no avail, and hearing the general cries of retreat, Dieter bolts from the undead horror toward the door. (Once there, he'll sheathe his sword and get out his crowbar if needed, but one thing at a time...)

Josiane hears Gustave's cry and makes a simple calculation. If there's space and time enough to turn and flee before the horror closes with her she'll bolt like a rabbit for the exit.
But if doing so is going to expose her poorly-armoured back to a thrust of that fearful sword she'll continue to withdraw as swiftly as she may while keeping her shield between the fiend and herself, locking her grey eyes commandingly into her foe's dire gaze and praying her last gamble may buy her the time she needs...
